Please, enlighten me.

I'm interested in to how you "know" so much.

My friend just quit teaching in Lumberton last year because she was getting in trouble for not changing the grades of the athletes...awesome.

At coaching school (THSCA) it was well known that Hooks consistently recruited very talented athletes to WO-S back in the late 80's and early to mid-90's. You heard stories every year. It was no secret. Most of the stories came from rival coaches who were probably jealous of WO-S's success. However, a few stories from former WO-S coaches (who left on good terms, by the way) seemed to have some truth to them. The "financial incentive" to move within WO-S's boundaries lured many an athlete to Orange during that time period. And to hear these former WO-S coaches claim that their former boss, Hooks, was behind many of these transfers just solidified in our minds that he was indeed as slimy as we thought he was.

As for that grade changing in Lumberton...I have no idea what you are talking about. I never have, currently do not and never will coach in Lumberton. But, I can tell you that arguments over athletic grades and grade changing happen at just about every school in Texas.

Right. The only football player I know who moved during their high school to play for WOS was Kelly something (class of 97-ish) & he sucked. However recruiting for high school is something that is done at every high school, but all of the actual good players WOS has had, at least in the last 15 years, were all born & raised in Orange, except for a 1 or 2 that got relocated to WOS because of Katrina.

I am interested as to which players Coach Hooks actually recruited. The players who actually went on to play at a real college the last 10 years were actually born & raised in Orange.

Example: Chris Cole, the Franks brothers, & a few guys who played for Texas.

Wasn't talking about Kerry and Jacoby. I know they both grew up in Orange. Same with Kevin Smith and Chris Cole. The Katrina stories were a bit exaggerated. A story I remember was a kid with the last name of Steens...or something like that. I remember hearing stories of how his dad was offered a job over in Orange and was given a rather large discount on rent for a house within the WO-S boundaries. Hooks was specifically mentioned as the guy that set up the whole thing. I think the kid eventually moved to California. That was the last I ever heard of him.

I've also heard stories of WO-S recruiting in baseball, too. I don't think Ronnie Anderson was ever involved, but Jay Canizaro's dad was in the recruiting game big time! He used to constantly badger some of our dads about moving their sons to play ball at WO-S. While, technically, not against UIL rules since he was a dad, it was still very unethical.

I realize that recruiting goes on in just about every school in Texas, but some of the stories (true/false or exaggerated) about Hooks are pretty legendary. We always looked forward to Dan Hooks recruiting stories at coaching school. I'm pretty sure that most of them were just that...stories.

This is not true.

Not hating, just saying that this is false.

nederland losing some of its small town feel ? Thats about as far from being right as u can get. If anything, its more of a small town feeling. I know this because i live here ! and have lived here a lot of years. Picked Ned. over bmt, lumberton, etc for that very reason.
