Heading down this weekend with a bunch of Boy Scouts. My background is strictly fresh water fishing.

What kind of setups, lures, baits, etc. would you recommend for fishing off of that pier? Also along that longggg pier, are there some spots that are prime fishing areas more than others?

My understanding is that Red Drums, Speckled Trout, and Flounders are the main fish to catch....

Thanks Ags.

Shrimp under a cork works well there. Ask at the Ranger station for hot spots s they have regular kid fish events on the pier. My kids have caught plenty of rat reds and dink trout off that pier.

Be prepared to catch 100's of small sand trout and occasional hard head.

The water under that pier is very shallow.

You may have a little more luck at the end of the pier if you are looking for reds.

The shallow pool on the west side of the pier just before the second bend to the right in the pier I have caught nice reds but no keepers...

I have also seen porpoise after sundown swim near the hump in the pier...

Thanks for the advice guys. Ended up using shrimp and fishing right around the hump in the pier. Caught quite a few trout (none of them keepers but we were catch and release with the scouts so no worries). Also caught a few hardheads during the day. Other folks pulled in a few drums during the morning that we were there also.
