Has this been rebuilt after burning down?? Just curious, spent many a coin there in the 60's. Forgot to mention, in Robstown, Tx.

I have heard that they are not rebuilding... just keeping the insurance money.

Kind of sounds like fraud to me.

No plans to rebuild-- i heard a rumor they may have like a drive through type restaurant, but that's pretty sad. It is definitely a historic icon.

FWIW, I know some of the cooks opened up a joint in Kingsville that supposedly tastes the exact same.

Haven't been personally but have heard multiple people talk about it...sadly I can't remember the name.

And yeah, they're not rebuilding last I heard. A lot going on with that, but not my place to say anything about it.

They are not rebuilding- rumor is they were under insured. There have been a few BBQ stands pop up, one in Robstown in front of Rigo's radiator shop is pretty good but it's just a trailer you walk up to- no Cotton's type of experience, and we tried one in Corpus that we will not return to.

Ate at Mr. G's this weekend, opened by some of the Cotton's staff. It was just ok...

I have no idea if this is true but I heard that one of Joe's sons took over the restaurant (don't know how many years ago). The son that took over eventually had a nasty divorce and in the divorce, the son got the business and the wife got the building that housed the restaurant.

When it burned, she took the insurance money and said F&*% the restaurant.

Don't know if it is true but that is the rumor I heard.

I drove by it about a month ago and it was a slab.

Was about to post about this... a few people I know apparently had a taste test today and said it was "as good as ever"

Good deal! Would love it if they came back to dining...not just catering.

They have to go plates now. Just ate a sliced beef sandwich. It was good. Didn't have as much meat as the old Cotten's (used to make 2 sandwiches everytime I ordered one) but it was good. Beans could have been cooked a little more too. Im confident they'll get the kinks worked out, it's the best BBQ around Calallen no doubt. Interested in what joint the previous poster is talking about too.

It's right by my house. The ribs were very disappointing - tasted like they had been smoked very little, then finished off in the oven.

I think they'll get it together, they had originally planned on only doing catering and then got swamped with people wanting individual plates; I don't think they were ready to put out the quantity they're expected to now.

With that said, Mr. G's is very good, and better than Cottens currently is. Mr. G's is off of 37 on the way downtown, I think you exit Navigation.

I tried Mr. G's and it was terrible. I will never go back.
