Just moved to victoria for work. I don't know a single person here. I know there is an aggie club that meets here, but I haven't been able to make it because of work. From what I'm told the best thing to do here is cactus canyon, but it's definitely no Hall of Fame. So, what is there for young people to do here?

I've got family in Victoria and they rave about the new baseball team there in town. Can't remember if it's UH Vicotira or minor league but they say the stadium is awesome and atmosphere is great.

If you like being outdoors you can always spend a good amount of time down at the Aransas Wildlife Refuge.

Other than that, if you can I would say join one of the country clubs.

The baseball team is the Victoria Generals, and what Nu Awlins Ag suggested does have some merit. The night life here is lacking, and whenever you go out you end up seeing the same people over and over, and over again.

I was in your shoes 6 years ago and know how you feel. I got past the "there is nothing to dos" by getting involved with a few of the local nonprofits (Habitat, Crime Stoppers, Red Cross, etc.) that kept me occupied and allowed me to meet some very interesting people.

The A&M club is a good start. Muster is coming up soon and you could probably pitch in to help and meet some people through that.

The bars and night scene is a bit depressing, but the City is working on further developing stuff to do in and around the downtown area.

Don't give up hope. Be open to new people and you'll find that folks will open up, having been in your shoes before.

Well thanks guys. The only form of keeping busy I've found is gold's gym and visiting the bar from time to time. It really is like everyone knows each other here. I'm assuming, like yall said, it's because you see the same people over and over...and over. Well there is something else yall might be able to help me out with, where is a great fishing spot around here?

Good luck! There's not much going on in that town! I do have to recommend that you go out to Schroeder Hall. It's hailed as the "Second Oldest Dancehall in Texas." It's a little bit out of town, but it's worth it. It's always a great time out there and they have live bands (mostly Texas Country) most weekends and it's the closest thing we have to The Hall. You can also go out to Downtown Bar and Grill and a couple of other places downtown as well as The Mustang or Brown Bag Saloon if Cactus Canyon doesn't do it for you... There are a ton of us Aggies that are "lucky" enough to be from around Victoria, so hopefully you can meet up with some. Everyone in Victoria really knows everyone... It's as close to being a small town without actually being one as you can get...

As far as fishing is concerned, I would recommend heading out to Coleto Creek or trying out the Guadalupe River. There's not really much left of Lake Texana... If saltwater is more your thing, Rockport and Aransas Pass and such are really close. My dad would be a much better reference for you on the fishing. I'll ask if he has any suggestions.
