In September 2011, Jarryd Dane Elliff, 21, of South Padre Islanddied in a single-car accident west of Port Mansfield. A vibrant, self motivated individual with a love for life and his family, Elliff was an example of what someone can accomplish with dedication, honesty and hard work. In October, Elliff’s family established a memorial scholarship through the Texas A&M Foundation to honor his passion for the sea and his interest in the Texas A&M University at Galveston Merchant Marine program.
