My brother and I are heading to Galveston this weekend for his birthday. Neither one of us are huge anglers, but both enjoy it enough to want to do some fishing. Any tips on spots, times, etc.? TIA

Really not enough information given to help you out much. There is a LOT of different types of fishing to be done in Galveston, but not knowing your equipment makes it tough to know what to suggest. Fishing on the beach is different from fishing the bay, etc. Under the circumstances, my advice would be to hit one of the piers. They will have the right bait and you can rent tackle if you need it. If the fish aren't biting, go upstairs to Jimmy's and grab something to eat and drink some beer. You'll have a good time. Your other good option would be to take a charter boat, but that will cost you a little more.

Im going to Galveston at the end of October and had the same questions. I went to Matagorda in July and had a great trip just surf fishing. It allowed it to be a cheaper trip for everyone. Problem is I thought we were also going into the bays so I loaded up on lots of crap and spent more money than I should have.

I only put out one big pole with 25lb test and waded out as far as I could and launched it from there. Changed bait often between cut mullet and live croaker. We caught several shark from the deep poles. For fishing with smaller rods we used shrimp and mullet and croaker but not as far out fishing and still did pretty good. Lots of small whiting and small sharks. Even caught some nice trout and small reds.

Good luck and post back here to let us know how you do!!!

$25 for a 4 hour trip. They provide tackle and bait. Lots of bull reds and big uglies caught. Only negative is they don't allow beer on the boat.
