I have been down here for about a year now and I have come up my current favorites and was just curious of what everyone else likes. Here is my list:
Breakfast Tacos, Taqueria Acapulo(Airline)
Mexican Restaurant, El Poltro
Seafood, Saltwater Grill
Burger, Haven't found one yet
Fine Dining, Republic of Texas
Asian(Good God there are a ton), Thai Spice

Breakfast Tacos: Was Moody's now its closed down. Everyone else is about the same including Stripes' tacos.
Mexican Restaurant: La Playa
Seafood: Yardarm
Burger: Padre Island Burger Bar , Surfside Sandwhich shop, Atomic Ommellette has awesome sliders.
Fine Dining: Republic of Texas, Black Sheep Bistro
Asian: Takkeniwa

Id be willing to add Bleu Bistro (formerly called 500) to fine dining/they have a good burger.

tacos - Bibeaus have some good ones
Mexican - Kikos
Hamburger- WallBangers
Asian - Imperial Cafe

Chicken (and pies!)...The Chicken Shack.
Steaks/Fine Dining....Nikos


Been wanting to try Katz .. Any reviews ?

Wife said Katz is disappointing... also we're not huge fans of Niko's. They're ok, but as steaks go, there's better in Corpus.

Lazuras...Give me a good steak place. We live between Cotulla and Freer and do most of our shopping in Corpus. We use the HEB there on Saratoga/Staples, so Nikos is convenient. Buy our take-home meats at Moody's...good Ags there.

Republic of Texas and Black sheep Bistro has some of the best steak I've had in Corpus.

Burgers-Beamers

Agree on Beamers, but it's just such a pain to get to right now.

The quality of the steaks at Katz 21 (recently relocated to the southside) is better than that of Niko's, in my opinion (and Niko's is pretty good!). Katz is alot pricier though (valet parking, wine lockers you can rent, etc). It's nice for a special night out with someone, whereas Niko's felt like TGI Friday's or any other chain place in terms of atmosphere.

Other places worth visiting: Yardarm, Black Sheep Bistro, Bleu Bistro, and my sentimental pick for Mexican is Kiko's. Marcel's out in Port A has a decent German menu.

Personally I think Republic of TX is pretty overrated. You're paying for the view, not the food.

Mexican - Cafe Maya for sure.

Italian -Mamma Mia's

Try Frank's Spaghetti House for good Italian. It's been there since the 40s. It's literally a two story house with the restaurant below and the living quarters above.

My 2 favoites....Dragonfly and Yardarm. Both have character and back it up with great food.

Port Aransas....Pelican Club!!!!!!!

Actually found the sushi at AKA on Waterstreet to be pretty good.

I like the burgers at the Surf Club. When the hell did Moody's close? Used to love that place when I lived there in 2001.

Moody's closed about 6 mos ago abruptly leading me to believe it was a health code violation.

Moody's for take home meats as said above. We are there a couple of times a week.
Burger: Try the Surf Club

Breakfast Tacos-stripes with the Laredo taco companies.
Burgers-it's still beamers.
fish-Catfish Charlies is still the best.

Mexican - Kikos
Burgers - Five Guys
Seafood (nice) - Waterstreet
Seafood (casual) - Snoopy's
Pizza - B&J's or Authentic New York Pizza
Asian - Hu Dat
BBQ - Cottons (in Calallen)
Local - Nolan's

I really like the barbecue at Bustillos, just outside the south gate to the NAS.

I went to Bustillos after I wasn't really impressed by a BBQ place I tried on the island.

Burger-lovers:

In-town, go to Mazzio's on Everhart, near Holly.

On the island, go to Scuttlebutt's! I'll take Scuttlebutt's over the Burger Company! Ya gotta try their burgers, dude!

Dragonfly looks pretty good. Do I need a reservation for Saturday or is it walk in only?

I think they do take reservations. However, I think Black Sheep Bistro is a better restaurant.

Moe I tried Franks several years ago. (If you remember me we talked about growing up in Corpus).

I was disappointed with quality. Not owned by Italians but an Arab family. Go figure that

i'm visiting corpus this week on business.
any suggestions on 1 or 2 places not to miss.

If your business will be downtown, Bleu Bistro is a good place to go, for both lunch and dinner. Vietnam is good as well, one of my favorites. I haven't been overly impressed with Republic when I've gone there.

been to Julian's barbecue on Baldwin between ayers and crosstown twice and thought the meats and the sides were better than any other such place in the county,including the new Cotten's

Port A brewing company made my list for casual dining. Great burger and pizza and loaded fries. Next time will try the wings. The beer brewed there is only so-so, though.
