Possibility of moving there in July, and have never been (interview soon). I just have no idea what to expect. I haven't ever really lived in a small city that wasn't a suburb.

I work in the area, live just north of there in Wharton. Bay City's not bad, a few good places to eat and a nice airport. The good neighborhoods seem to be on the west and south sides of town. There's a few pieces of land outside of town for sale I see from time to time, small tracts that would be secluded and quiet. If I were to move closer to the area, I would look around El Maton.

Worked there back in 07-08...IIRC, the nicer neighborhoods were on the west side of town near the high school and on the north side of town, north of the junior high/football stadium. I lived on the south side of town. It wasn't run down by any means.

When I was there, crime wasn't too bad. A handful of robberies but hardly what I would call a crimewave.

My favorite restaurant was River Bend down at Matagorda...great atmosphere on Friday/Saturday nights.

There was a really good taco truck that would roll into town on Tuesday/Fridays...usually setting up across from the HEB. Not sure if they are still there but it was GOOD.

Dunno if i'm moving yet, but probably not gonna buy. Wife wants land and to build. we shall see. Have to get the job first!

I"m from Bay City. My parents house will be for sale shorty. Blocks from the fire department/police department. It was built in 2007. 3 bedroom, 2.5 baths.

Have a house under contract right now.

Bay City used to be a decent town. I would not live there though, not anymore anyway.

It's hard to say this and make people from the area realize you are serious, but Van Vleck is a much better option to look at in that general area.

There is a new oilfield service company about to break ground between VV and BC on a new production facility, so some life is getting injected into the economy.

BC schools are absolutely horrid though.

There are still a couple of decent neighborhoods in town. I hear a rumor they are getting an Applebees in the next couple of months too.
