Question for you Gulf Coast Aggies. I'm considering taking a job on Galveston Island. How would the island life suit a mid-twenties single guy?

Depends. Do you like to fish, spend time on the water, people watch, hit every kind of bar, dodge hurricanes, go to a crazy number of restaurants but more or less only shop at wal mart, target, or home depot? If so, you'll love it!

It's pretty simple actually. You're either an island person or you're not. You either get it or you don't. There's not much in between. I'd say there are more people who wouldn't like it than those who would. Go with your gut. I don't think age is much of a factor honestly.

Small town feel, close enough to access big city.
Maybe a 10 minute commute to work or walk, ride a bike.
Lot of outdoor stuff. Lot of history stuff. We even have some artsy and culture stuff.

I think I like it but I've only been here for 30 years so still trying to make up my mind for sure.

Live on bolivar peninsula and love it. Like it was said earlier, youre either a beach type person or youre not.

make sure you spend some time at the Kon Tiki bar downtown but look out for the cinder blocks that get thrown thru the front door

There are lots of great places to live within 20-30 minutes of Galveston . If the job is good, no need to be trapped on the island .

Island life is good for all

My commute to work ranges from 1-1.5 hour one way, I like it here that much.


But I will likely move closer to work eventually, working in the maritime shipping industry means I'm pretty much always on call.
