I'll vote against it. This city council has never shown that they can take care of their toys.

I'm all for it. I feel there are a lot of misinformation out there, like B-1 expressed. This park will not even be maintained by the city. I went to the aggie luncheon this month and the speaker was a part of the projects team. To recap a couple highlights:

Streets first... well saying YES to this is not saying yes to fix the streets. They are two separate bonds unrelated. The city recently passed bonds and are working on the roads, they cannot work on all roads at once, not enough numbers

It ruins my view on my drive to and from work. Well in my honest opinion... if that is the only time you are enjoying the bay... well you should not be voting.

One guy argued that the immediate property owners will be the only ones that benefit. Personally, I say great for those lot owners buying that land and seeing the potential, I am not against other people making money. But I will also be benefiting from this park by having something nice in Corpus we can attract people with.

7% of corpus economy is due to tourism. Schlitterbahn is being constructed... why not capitalize off that construction and get more money for the city that we could use to fix the streets, etc.

So DBF got defeated. So for everyone who voted no ... What's your plan to better Corpus Christi , now ?

And the Hispanics. Don't forget them. The West Side was overwhelmingly against it. DB only benefited "rich white people," and we can't have that. And there is also the "Bay Area Citizens Against Anything" - they played a part as well.

Don't forget the middle class taxpayers who are tired of this city council and their ability to squander funds. Where did all the money bonded for Packery Channel improvements go?

The plan? Show the taxpayers they can fix the streets and maintain the parks and other venues they already have. When the city council shows me they can take care of the toys they already have, I might vote for new ones. The beach by shoreline is a constant filthy, gangbanger infested, graffiti riddled craphole, and they can't take care of it.

Don't worry, Mayor Martinez has already assured her puppet masters that their money and Destination Bayfront will be passed by other methods. I'm betting all the land sales go through her title company.

Umm what evidence do you have to support this ? I run down shoreline on a regular basis and have no experienced this. The worst thing is when it gets busy with people there can be trash and dog crap along the way but it always gets cleaned up. In fact there were guys out sealing cracks and holes in the sea wall and there were workers power washing the side walk and trash cans and light poles the last time I went running down there.

Nice try Chicken Ranch. Reading is hard. So you are saying if we give them even more stuff to not keep up, they will keep it up?

Fear not. One of the city councilmen was on TV this morning saying they can still build part of it with leftover bond money from a few years ago. Really? Why not shove that into streets repair, park repair, and American Bank Center maintenance?

I know, "Look! something shiney! Let's buy it! We'll even give obscure answers on how to maintain it!"

B-1, your ignorance is evident. Your mentality is what is keeping this city from developing. I assume you are the type of person that bashes this city then votes no on projects like this.

DB was going to get the ball rolling. It was going to be PRIVATELY maintained, you do realize that does not involve the city, right? $23/year per $100,000 home tax increase. That is a steal (Under $2/month since you seem to have a hard time comprehending information)

I'm sorry 66% of our voters are negative scum of the earth people who want Corpus to never prosper

I love how you mention the city can't maintain anything then name the streets (which are maintained by the city) as something you would rather have addressed. Oh the irony...

B1 will probably vote against the streets bond next year as well. Just to make sure they have something to b*tch about.

Name calling- the last ditch effort by those who know they are wrong. The city councilmen I've heard discuss the maintenance funding all spun a different tale on the funds to maintain the new toy. I even heard one say it would come out of the hotel/motel tax. Really? That money isn't already spent? If true, why couldn't they use that money to fix roads and and the toys they already have? What other city has a "street fee" on their utility bill? I've never lived in a city that has a more self serving group on the city council who mismanages more funds than this bunch. I'll vote for it when they show me some form of management of current problems.

Couple of corrections:
1. The Packery Channel projects are being completed as the Tax Increment funding is available, no bonds have been sold for this work.
2. The Mayor sold her title company after her election last year.

doesn't matter. 2/3 of corpus voters don't believe this city should be anything more than a second rate city. Next election we will disassemble the wheelchair ramps so the old farts can't vote.

I don't want schlitterbahn on the island or anything else like that on the bay front. The city won't make them maintain it and it will just create traffic issues. All it will take is one big ass storm that will knock it to hell and it will sit there like an eyesore. Corpus management sucks and tourism isn't going to fix it. I was born and raised here but I would rather it stay the same than try this crap only to watch it fail down the road or lead to unforeseen consequences because it is clear our leadership lacks foresight. That being said, if you don't like corpus then hit the road. My family and I are doing well and have no plans on going anywhere.

I voted for it but without a lot of confidence. The reason it failed is because a majority of the citizens do not trust the city government or the people who fund the various initiatives.

Why give them a new toy? is a remark I heard repeatedly.

The city's future is going to be made by the shale play and the university. The recent drone announcement is going to be a huge difference maker in terms of white collar jobs.

The city's coffers are going to be loaded for the first time in decades and they can buy some new toys.

I know!!!! They can put brightly colored lights on the harbor bridge!!!!! It doesn't improve quality of life but it would be pretty and shine real good!!!
