why do you live here?

Are you doing anything to make it better or are you spreading the negativity? Never seen a city hate themselves so much then wonder why no one wants to come here

I consider it my hometown since I lived there from 1947-60. It was a clean nice town in the 50s,60s an 70s. It has changed for the worst. Infrastructure in decline. Even Ocean Drive is the pitts. My old neighborhood is a ghetto.

Unfortunately, Corpus Christi is the way it is because the people the live here want it that way. I know..it is hard to comprehend.

Imagine a bucket of crabs. One tries to climb out and what happens? The others pull it back in. That is what they do here.

There was a bond election last week to spend 45 million on the Bayfront. It would have revolutionized it and created a conservancy to manage it. It would have raised taxes $23/per 100k in valuation per year. Peanuts. It failed. 65-35%. So, the Bayfront will stay nasty. I guess that is how they want it.

Most of us that live here occasionally go to Galveston and SPI to enjoy the things we don't have. It is sad.

True, it didn't pass. I'm disappointed and you are correct about a handful of negative people holding the community back. (Read: olarmy69)

However, i disagree that the bayfront is currently "trashy". It is not up to it's full potential, but it is OK.

Galveston beach and their seawall are trash. I would never go there again on my own will.

Never been to SPI. Open to trying it, but from what I've seen and heard, Our area is just as good.

Corpus Christi is not in the same league as SPI. Think Destin.

Galveston has the Galvez, the San Louis Resort, The Strand, Moody Gardens, the new Pleasure Pier (we ran this concept out of town too), first class restaurants, etc. Our Bayfront and water is much nicer, however Galveston does more with less.

Been to destin. From the pics of spi I have seen they don't even compare.

The water and beach are not the same at SPI as they are in Destin, but the amenities are about the same.

Sorry, i misundrstood. You're right. That is one thing lacking. I definitely like the fact that it is one of the few beaches in the country you can drive on. There came up a vote to close the beach down toe vehicles on a 1 mile stretch near the holiday inn and create some restaurants/shops near the beach to make that tiny section similar to SPI. It got shot down which I think is ridiculous. Certainly there are some people holding us back, but as a whole I think Corpus is making strides in the right direction and not in the direction of becoming a port arthur type city based only on industry.

You are right. The same people that stopped that project are the same ones that opposed DB. If I live somewhere other than CC, and I want to take my family to the beach, I want to go some place where I can walk out of my hotel to the beach and not worry about cars running over my kids. And "driving on the beach" brings condoms, diapers, whataburger bags, trash, and other left behind refuse. There is 80 miles of National Seashore that will always be undeveloped and drivable. 7000 ft was a pittance. But hey, CC didn't want "them" to steal their beach.

That is why SPI and NPI are what they are.

Unfortunately you can't overhaul an entire community attitude and negative Nancy's like the OP. can only make steps in the RIGHT direction.

We could try removing the wheel chair access ramps at all voting polls next time around?

Grew up going to Corpus every summer as a kid. Hope it can make a turn for the better. Used to dream of living on Ocean Drive.

Maybe someone should propose something through A&M Corpus to build up the community. Get Big Event down there if any of you old ags even know what that is.

That's actually a pretty good idea. I wonder who would be the person to talk to at the University.

Thinking about going to Corpus next weekend for an Alan Jackson concert.

What is the best place to eat in Corpus? Best bar to relax at?

What's your idea of relaxing?
Surf club or Brewster street are chill venues. You could also check out bleu bistro for an upscale relaxed atmosphere.

Actually A&M CC already has the Big Event. Not sure what the participation is like but they do have it.

They also have Alternative Spring Breaks, where students can get involved with a community project during their Spring Break.

When the finishing touches are put on the Island it will be a premier vacation spot on the gulf coast. The addition of Schlitterbahn, a world class blue water vessel marina, riverwalk with bars and restaurants, and all the tourist attractions that will sprout around it will make North Padre a awesome place for family vacations. It is a 9 year plan, but it is going to happen. I am not one to dislike the progress. I just welcome new things and watch my property values soar.

I'm from Houston and would never waste a penny going to the filthy waters of Galveston. people come to Corpus and spend a day on North beach or the bayfront and think they went to the beach. If tourist would travel 10 miles south and spend a day on Whitecap beach they would have a whole new outlook.

Destination Bayfront would have brought a lot of that to downtown corpus but got shot down by fools who didn't want their property taxes to go up a few bucks.

I have a feeling in 10 years majority of those against Destination Bayfront will be gone. Plus with all Schilterbaun will bring in... how could you not?
