Contemplating a move to CC. Only have 1 child left in school and she will be a Freshman in high school next fall. What is considered the best high school (s) in the area. I was told by a coworker that Flour Bluff is a good one.

Thanks,

That list confirms what I heard when shopping around last year, that Flour Bluff ISD and Calallen ISD are the tops. I ended up buying in Portland as ISD wasn't highest on my concerns.

London is definitely a great school. London ISD kids' families have a median household price of 350k or something crazy like that. There is plenty of land out in the area if you want something with more of a rural feel.

Flour Bluff is also a top public HS in the area.

The new High School on Southside is supposed to be open by Aug 2015. I'm not sure how they are enrolling students though. You may want to check on that. Veteran's Memorial HS

The bluff is a good academic school. It is fairly diverse because it has Bluff residents and all the Island kids.
My kids have all gone there and my youngest(son) is a 9th grader currently. If you move to Corpus, live on the Island. You won't regret it.
good luck.

How bad is the drive from The north end of the island into downtown every day?

Traffic would be tough on SPID as it approaches Crosstown.

You could go Ocean Drive a lot nicer drive.

It ain't Houston!

SPID to Ennis Joslin, then Ocean Drive to Downtown would be a pretty sweet daily commute. May not be the fastest, but would be very chill.

Traffic here in Corpus is almost a non-concern. The only time I have experienced bad traffic is on SPID between Weber and Airline or occasionally on Saratoga at "rush hour". The worst commute here is still better any Houston commute. I commute from Northshore area of Portland to Southside Corpus. 17 miles one way takes 20 minutes door to door.

North Padre to downtown 20 min. Always. There is NO traffic in this town.

We do all of shopping in Corpus because the traffic is great. Also, Staples and SPID can be congested at times, but almost everything you need is in that area.

Still wish Sams would've stayed off of Greenwood...to me it's harder to deal with on Everhart...other than the fact I can hit Academy, too !

Only time I am frustrated with traffic is afternoon rush hour and is going east bound on SPID @ Weber

And then south on Everhart @ SPID

Seems like those 2 places bog down pretty bad. Somehow in the morning its not that bad. Its like everyone GOES to work at diff times but all get off at the same time.

How expensive is hurricane and wind insurance?

That depends on where you live and how expensive your house is. My wind and flood come out to about 2500. I live in a tier 1 county but my elevation is 30 feet. That makes my flood more affordable.

If your elevation is lower, even if you are a few miles from saltwater, your flood premiums will be sky high.

The problem with North Padre Island, as opposed to many other coastal areas, is that very few houses are on pilings or stilts. And I don't know why that is.

Premiums through TWIA are the same in all tier 1 counties.
For example the premium on a $200,000 house in Brazoria county would
same in Nueces county. The newer home get a pretty good building
code credit which reduces the premium by as much as 30%.

When looking at a house to buy make sure it has the WPI-8 certification
