Several years ago, I went to Katies to get my customary haul of shrimp to take home to Ennis. When I parked, I noticed that a shrimper had just pulled in and was selling their catch right on the boat. $5/lb. for giant shrimp. Unfortunately, I haven't been lucky enough to catch the boats at the right time on subsequent visits. Do any of you know when the best time is to catch the boats coming in?

Late reply, but better than never I guess. There really is no set time, unfortunately, because it depends on how things are running for them out there. What I usually do, or did, was meet up on the docks the night before and try to get some kind of an estimate for the next day. Even then it is just a guess most of the time. What you can do instead is buy them fresh from the seafood shop just off of the docks. Not quite as fresh as directly from the boat, but REALLY really close. Usually a little more expensive, but it beats sitting on the docks and waiting. For what it's worth, the best shrimp I've ever had came that way. Take a cooler.
