I drove US 90 through Waveland, Biloxi and Gulfport yesterday. Everything was swept clean 4-5 blocks inland from the beach. Homes that I had been driving by for years were just flat gone-nothing but the steps remained. These were homes that survived 100 years of storms.

Anyone building on the Texas Coast should drive up, take a look at this, and then commence to hit themselves in the head with a hammer until the urge to build goes away...

A friend of ours who lived near Pascagoula 3 miles inland lost everything when the bayou 3 blocks from her home backed up and put 4 feet of water in the home. She is just now getting ready to tell FEMA to come get their trailer out of her front yard. Her neighbor had no flood insurance and couldn't get a FEMA or SBA grant since it was a rent house he owned. He sold if for $60K to get out from under the note that he had put $30K down. He sold it for zero profit and lost his 30K to boot.
