The fiancee and I are taking a weekend trip to the area...any hole-in-the wall type restaurants, bars, places of interests, etc. worth seeing?

Hu-Dat restaurant next to Casterline Fish Co. An interesting (Aggie) stop if your going to score some shrimp at Caterline's.

Go to Farrahs (it's a bar) on the Island when you go to Corpus.

On Padre Island in Corpus (Flour Bluff actually), Farah's is a local bar & Snoopy's is a seafood restaurant under the JFK Causeway. If you go into Corpus, go to Vernon's, just up the hill from the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach on CC Bay.

I'm actually staying in Port A, and I don't know how much time (if any) we spend in Corpus. Anybody know about anything closer to Port A?

If you go to Aransas Pass head to Shell World. It is a dump of a place on the outside but they have shells from all over the world. They have a lot of different types of corral, giant clams etc..he can tell you all about them as well.

It blows all of the Port A shops out of the water as far as shells are concerned.

Crazy Cajun in Port Aransas is good, but only if you get the crawfish boil (crawfish, potato, corn, etc). That is their specialty. Anything else there is way overpriced.

Howdy, dudes...I'm about to relocate to Corpus. Tell me about Snoopy's -- is it just a place overlooking the Bay, or is it more than just that? What about the place next door to it?

Gig 'em!

Mmmmmmmmmm....Snoopy's. It's right off of the JFK Causeway when you're crossing over to the island. It's very reasonably priced seafood platters and fried shrimp or oyster sandwiches. They take your order and call your name when it's ready. It's a nice place to go to try to catch a sunset dinner. Scoopy's next door is an ice cream place. The other restaurant isn't nearly as good the last time we tried it. Whenever we had friends visiting Corpus, we always took them there.

Frenchy's used to be next door, but I think it burned down. Used to watch Ric Higher and the Flyers or something like that - a cover house band.

It was next to Snoopys, and burning down was the best thing that ever happened because it sucked, and Mr. French was an *******.

They rebuilt Frenchys but don't know how it is. Scoopys is the ice cream joint next to Snoopys on the other side.

Snoopy's has the best fish & chips I've ever eaten but prepare to sweat a lot! I recommend Alice Faye's bar & restaurant in Rockport.

Salty, if you are staying in Port A, I would definitely recommend eating there and traveling into Corpus if you like good seafood. There are quite a few places in Port A right by the Ferry landing. Trout Street and Fin's are a couple of nice places with a relaxing atmosphere. Snoopy's is also a great place. Most if not all of the restaurants on the island are pretty casual as well, just in case your wife wants to know what to dress for as mine does.

Salty:

Try Shells (a restaurant) in Port A. It's a little pricey, but well worth it. I heard a gourmet chef "retired" to Port A and decided to open a restaurant. One of the better places I've been to.

if you go to shells watch out for the water dripping from the air conditioner vents into your plate!

Snoopy's is the best place to go for fried seafood ad they have good burgers. The old frenchy's or i guess doc's now look's nice bc it was rebuilt and is where all the tourists go but it's food is bad. Snoopy's has better atmosphere, basically go to snoopy's.

If you want to leave the island but still stay close to Port A, the best place from Rockport to Port A is CRAB N. It is located in City by the Sea, which is off of business 35. Very local and fresh seafood. I have had the flounder and the crab cakes, both very good plates. Trout Street is good as well, but the wait can be long. After many years of staying in Port A, we try not to eat on the island due to the waits. Crab N usually doesnt have that much of a wait, but you have to deal with the fairy...pick your poison.

We just got back from a week down there. When we ate out, we went to Castaways. Good everything, especially the jalapeno bottlecaps. Went to the Pelican's Landing to a Rotary meeting. Good food. Went to a bright orange restaurant/fish market. Good food, but no beer.

We also just got back from a week at Port A. However, we hit the HEB by the bridge on 22 and didn't eat out once. Our five year old boy looks like he'll be a surfer so, our trips to Port A are numbered...d8(

POETS - haven't been in a while but used to be (by far) the best margaritas and fajitas in Tejas.

I am sorry, but this cracked me up. Do they have a transvestite waiter there?

In all seriousness, I second Alice Faye's in Rockport. I know I am probably too old school for some, but I also make Charlotte Plummers every chance I can get. Big Fisherman blows.

FYI - the coffee shop Beemans in Port A closed down at the beginning of the summer. It's reopened, but not with the same owners. Cotter Street Coffee House has unofficially taken it's place and it's pretty good.
