How long do you want to ignore this user?
I am looking to possibly move into the Victoria area in the near future and seem to really like the town and some of the apartments I've looked at. The only thing I know nothing about is whether or not there is ANYTHING to do at night? Could someone please fill me in the way of bars/dancehalls/clubs/whatever you want to call it. Thanks a lot.

A lot of people complain about Victoria, but it is what you make of it.

There are a few decent bars to go to - even if they don't look like it from the outside, they're still pretty fun. Some of the ones we go to are Scoreboard, Brown Bag, 205 Bar, and Earnie's Place.

Schroeder Dance Hall is in, well, Schroeder, which is about 20 minutes away. They have lots of concerts all year long.

Our local A&M club is looking for new members...we have monthtly happy hours. If you want to join, email us at victoriacoamclub@yahoo.com.

There's also a group for young (in their 20's and 30's), professional people - Young Professionals of Victoria. Currently we have 140 or so members and it's a great way to meet new people. If you want to join, email us at ypvictoria@yahoo.com.

Like I said, a lot of people complain about it, but it's what you make of it. I have tons of friends, I'm involved in a few activities outside of work, and it's not too bad here. If you stay home all the time and make no effort to get out and meet people, sure, it sucks, but that's true of any city.

It's also growing. We recently got an Academy, and a few new resturants are being built.

Let me know if I missed anything...

Depending on your situation, it is a great market to buy a house. If you are looking for apartments, The Whittington is one of the newest and best maintained complexes in town. It's got a pool, workout room, gated, and covered parking spots. If you are looking for a cheap town-home style place, The Landing is also pretty good. I have a few friends in the Silvermine apts. (off of Navarro) that like it there too.

Then again, if you don't have much stuff, I have a spare bedroom/bathroom that I'm not using and wouldn't mind a roomate.

Nightlife is growing, and the locations listed earlier in this thread are pretty good. There is also The Oakroom bar on top of the Wells Fargo building downtown that is pretty nice. It's got a "cold top" bar section that keeps your drinks chilled while seated there.

Earnie's has a biker night on Thursday that fills up the parking lot with choppers. It's good fun to go, enjoy the band, and watch people.

Avoid Cactus Canyon.

Cactus Canyon is the suck, all of the other places are cool. Schroeder Hall can be a blast when the band is good and a lot of people are there.

You want a town with nothing to do, come to Laredo.
