Central Texas

Have any of you ever looked at a state map. If DFW is central than so is Bryan, San Antonio, Sweetwater and Sonora. Parts of DFW are only 60 miles from the border (if that).

Brady/Brownwood is Central to the state.

Wow. I'm not normally a supporter, but when a guy with Tyler, TX listed in his profile starts cracking on Central Texas as a hole <sic>, I'll give you my 2 cents worth.

1. Waco does in fact suck. The Midway side thinks it doesn't, but that's generally because they never venture past Richland Mall, or the new shopping Center at I35 & Loop 340, or further down Franklin or Waco Drive than the newest chain restaurant that's decided to give Waco a go.
Travel Limit Exception #1 - all the Woodway/Hewitt/Lorena residents who work at Baylor have to travel over to the Bubble. But, they live in dread fear of having their car break down around S18th and Speight.
Travel Limit Exception #2 - crossing Dutton Ave. on foot during halftime of a Baylor home fooball game to get to the George's Tent and slam a couple cold ones with their Frat Bros. before heading back to watch BU continue to get dominated in the 2nd half (Exception - my last trip to Floyd Casey with the Ags under Fran)
2. As one poster correctly stated, The geographical center of Texas is on 377 just south of Brownwood on the way to Brady (I served for several years in the National Guard out that way, so I've traveled that road often). Waco usually refers to itself as The Heart of Texas. But, I digress.
3. BTW - that girl in the Luby's photo is cute, but she also looks like she's smiling because you just agreed to get saved with her. Or, because her Youth Minister just said it was OK for her to do certain things as long as she tried them on him first.

On the plus side:

Kolaches in West.

SPSJT Halls like West Fraternal, Elk, Elm Mott, etc.

Dirt Track Racing in Elm Mott.

I've put quite a few 120mm main gun, 105mm main gun, caliber .50, .223, 9mm and 7.62 mm rounds down range at Fort Hood. That's a huge plus for Central Texas.

Someday in the future I'd really like to have a house near Morgan's Point. I think Belton has the most going for it, or the most potential in Central Texas.

The new Killeen airport (GRK) rocks too. I flew in there last year for my old man's 70th.

I forgot to add on the suckage side - Nolanville P.D. I've never gotten a ticket through there, but know many who have.

Now, let me tell you about my Tyler experiences.
1. Flew in there on a commercial flight from Austin on an aircraft that held about 8-10 people maybe. I hadn't done that since I was a kid in Alaska.
2. Drove there for a wedding (wife's Suite Mate from Krueger was the only reason I agreed to go). Stayed at a La Quinta or something full of rednecks. Had to drive what seemed like 30 minutes to the County Line to buy beer from some little side of the road first chance store. Ironically, my father had similar stories from the 1950s when he did some highway construction work in East Texas. And I thought progress in Waco was slow.

Tyler kind of reminded me of the Pawn Shop scene from Pulp Fiction.

The best thing about Central Texas is that the metropolitan stuff is there for those who want to make a weekend in the big city. since I have lived in Central Texas, I have seen, live, Yul Brenner in 'The King and I'; Richard Burton in 'Camelot'; and live performances of Cats, Phantom of the Opera and Evita.
I had to go to Dallas to see these performances but I'd stay over and maybe catch a Ranger game or a horse race in FT Worth.
Then I got to come back here and leave the traffic behind.

If Ultra had ever been to the Pidcoke-Rumley-Briggs Triangle, he would know that central Texas does not suck.
