They've been 3A since the 80s.

I'll give you that Lorena might have been 3A since The 254 has been around, but in the 1980s they were most definitely 2A. I remember when they won the Class 2A State Football Championship in 1987. In fact, The UIL Web Site has Lorena in the 1989-90 Class 2A State Championship for Football. They wind up losing to Groveton. Seems Groveton had this Running Back who wound up going to A&M.

Rodney Thomas....I believe that was around the time Lorena had the great John Henry.

Lorena acutally moved to 3A in the early 90's...1990 I think. They won the 2A state title in 1987 and then lost in the finals in 1989. The 1989 final was against Groveton where they lost 20-13 thanks to one Rodney Thomas!

Didn't see posters above had already responded about Lorena...I guess my previous post confirms what they said.

Salado is going get owned in that district.

But we are still better than Rogers, Temple, Belton, etc. I'm glad I didn't go to those inferior schools.

This alignment splitting makes for odd districts. Academy will drive through Rogers (not in their district) to get to Cameron (in the district).

They still get Rogers in basketball. I guess I'll never be a fan of this division 1 and 2 thing.

3A 2A 80's 90's same difference.

The last two years, West and China Spring had to drive right by Connally to play each other. West, China Spring, and Gatesville were in one district and Connally, LaVega, etc. were in another. That's change, but the way the UIL does alignments is really antiquated. That actually put push pins on a map for all the schools in that class and then use a rubber band to connect the schools in a district.

Where that's screwed up is in a situation like West and China Spring, which are close as the crow flies, but when you take into consideration that the only places to cross the river are on the way to Lake Whitney and over by MCC, it doesn't make sense.

I think it sucks that West and Connally have not been in the same district since the 90s. Connally is the closest 3A school to West, and the school districts butt up against one another. Used to be a big rivalry.

I'm a Yoeman 87', we had in our District in the fall of 1986; Cameron, Hearne, Rockdale, Navasota, Madisonville, and Caldwell that was not an easy District and top of that we played Marlin, Palastine, Del Valle, and one other.

Bohunk, don't hate on the UIL's practice of dividing districts. They've upgraded their technology to color yarn.

Seriously though, you would think there would be some sort of computer program that could help make sense of the realignment process.
