I told my wife yesterday to slap me this summer if I complain about the heat.

I have said this 100 times this winter. It is usually in the form of "this is one of the main reasons why we stay in Texas right, so we don't have to have real winters?".

I know it pales in comparison to the snow/ice, etc. that they have gotten up north, but this stinks. I'll take 30 straight 100 degree days in August anytime, but I hate this crapola.

the Farmer's Almanac said this winter 2009-2010 would be near record and certainly the coldest, most frequent cold snaps and longest in recent memory!

My entire family laughed at me, teased me that I was reverting to "old wives tales and beauty parlor talk!"

Well, they are all kissin my grits NOW! My holly bushes say we aren't close to the end of THIS winter yet!!!

I only wish every winter was like this.

But, since you all like heat (I am MISERABLE in the summers here), it's probably me (duh) that needs to move.

Jan, we are actually LOVING it because we never get to experience seasons here. This go around we had some(very minor I will add)color changes in mid Nov then cold...an occasional warmish day, then cold, then frozen titty, then coolish! How great is that to be able to wear MORE than a long sleeved shirt. We have recently had winters where wind breakers were all the kids needed when walking to classes at A&M.

My first semester in college was in Jan. in Huntsville and THEY put out an alert if one more tray was taken from a dining hall no meal would be served. Sleding down Old Main hill! Well gosh, in Texas you gotta do what you gotta do. My son is there right now in grad school so I kind of hope he gets to enjoy this cold but then I worry about him driving those hills with ice as he is off campus and I wasn't.

Wow... got a bunch of babies here. It has not been that cold. We've had maybe two weeks of decent cold weather.

30s and 40s isn't cold. hth.

Granted, I'm the baby when it gets hot and I see no use for any temperature above 80, but still, it's not like it's bitter cold or anything.

I don't believe anyone has used the word bitter...colder than usual, yes...bitter, no

See it's like this we gave those Bohunks the vote and now they complain cause we gave them water, I mean seriously!

By the way...you said as soon as you moved back to West you would bring me hot kolaces when you came to work....almost two years and I ain't had one yet!

When I dropped ADjr off for FOW back in 02 I told him that when he thinks it is rough to remember his grandfather went through the Battle of the Bulge. When they had their March to the Brazos he kept remembering what his grandfather went through and decided it really wasn't that cold. Everything is relative.

watty, I agree.

I ***** like heck when it gets over 80 degrees, but I LOVE using my fireplace, and love the feeling I get when I look outside and it looks like winter.

I just wish we got more snow....I really, really do.

Amen, janag. I LOVE snow. I love the hassles associated with it. I love everything about it. I'd give anything for us to have what Dallas is getting (or what DC got )

I vote for hot. I love 60 degree nights and 85 degree days. Perfect plus I don't have to run either the heat or the air conditioning. Saves money.

The year my kids were about three and five and getting first bikes from santa, it was colder. I know that we were up here for the holidays and they had to ride their little baby bikes in the garage because it was too cold to let them outside. That would have been perhaps 82 but I could be off a year either way.

But I hate cold weather. I don't go outside if I can avoid it unless it is at least fifty, and I can't take walks or enjoy the daylight hours.

I am amazed that places like Canada or Alaska even have populations because if given a choice, I would move back to Laredo before I would be anywhere that had to deal with snow and ice.

It is great that we are so different, but this winter has seemed to last forever.

I hate running my heat, but I don't have a source for firewood or anyone to carry it for me, and I dont like to shovel ashes.

So I run the heat and have stress before the electric bill comes it. Plus the heat is so drying to my skin and the houseplants.

When I get out in the cold, my joints all hurt and my nose runs. That is NOT an attractive picture at all.

for those that like it, good for you

I don't, never have. I did 10 years in the Metroplex, seemed like massive ice storms every year. In '83, it didn't get above 32 for two weeks. In '90, it got down to 4 degrees in Ft Worth, only time I ever had pipes freeze.

In '91, I had a wonderful Halloween in Minneapolis with a 27 inch snowfall.

Give me those nice spring daze with highs in the 80's

Of course, in the summer I complain of the heat. At least Rufus, the Boxer Wonder Dog, and I can go out & play

But, I don't like this. Just paid the HIGHEST electric bill I ever had in my life

Rufus is bored, and just stares at me like it's my fault

3rd, bet it was '83...Waco was cold and we had a one year old that had to be bundled up every time we went any place.

I think I could handle the COLD as long as it wasn't WET too. Seems like the cold just slices right through me now and the only way to get really warm is a hot bath.....which sounds like a great idea right now!

Back to the OP, he might be too young, but when I was growing up in Central Texas, my memories are MOSTLY of winters like this.

In fact, I've always told my husband who is from houston that we sometimes have entire winters when it rains (like this one).

I promise you, those are my memories. BTW, I'm no global warming person, but there it is...

funny because i was born in late fall of '83 and my dad always says i was a harbinger of doom for that winter. he said this was the coldest winter he's remembered since then.

i was in downtown Austin at a convention all week and had to walk everywhere in the sleet and stuff... but still loved it. most of the teachers and people with me hated every step of the way, which is understandable. but i wouldn't mind it one bit if it was like that from october till april.

deer chili tonight makes it all the better.

I hate this. Hate it. It's like living in a cave because I can't really do anything outside. I've done all the little annoying tasks that I have kept putting off for another time. I'm tired of reading, baking, and talking to the dog. Tonight's weather from Dallas says to expect the rest of February to have lots more sucky weather.

My doggies so wanted to sunbathe, but there was not a a dry spot in the back yard. Under the grass it is either mud or lake.

Can't let Watty and Janag get the last say. I hate Hate HATE cold weather. Gimme mornings of 75 and afternoons up to 100, and I'm happy. I too get achy joints and a runny nose in the cold. Anything under 65-70 and I get pissy.

oh yes they can have the almost last word!

I will see you on the excessive cold but raise their limit on heat...no 100 degree days EVAH!

For me, perfect is 30-80...cold enough to need coats and call it winter but then only warm enough to allow sandals ocassionally.
