Western cities fare best in well-being index
quote:
The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, based on interviews with more than 353,000 Americans during 2009, asked individuals to assess their jobs, finances, physical health, emotional state of mind and communities.

#13 on the list...and the first metro in Texas listed...drumroll...Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood, TX!

Ummm...I'm Cen-Tex born and Cen-Tex raised. I miss a lot of the things about Cen-Tex. But saying it is best in Texas (and better than say Research Triangle in NC, Nashville, Lexington KY, etc) for how you "feel about their jobs, their health, their lives and their futures"...well, I'm not buying it.

i'm curious if the self-reporting there comes from people opinions of their closeness and ease of access to Austin/Waco/DFW.

I mean the area is far from perfect but you get small town life with really just about everything you need here. But you don't have to screw with the big city living. Medically you don't have to drive anywhere to get better coverage or specialty doctors. Work environment without the economic instability that seems to have hit the metroplex areas around us.

But Austin, which is great to play in, is just an hour away. Houston, SA and DFW are all about 2.5 hours away with a really easy drive.

I'm happy as heck to be here and wouldn't even consider living in DFW, Austin, Houston, or SA.
