I've got a friend who is moving back to Texas to retire. His wife is an Ag and also a school teacher. She wants to continue to teach. She teaches high school biology.

They are thinking about the Killeen/Copperas Cove area but are open to other locations in the area.

What's the good, the bad, and the ugly on those school districts from a teacher perspective? Thanks

High School Biology is a difficult job to find.

Most people who teach the Sciences teach Biology.

WE (Temple High) need Chemistry/Physics types. We're pretty set on Biology.

Killeen/CC pay really well.

What about the school environments in Killeen/CC? Would Temple, Belton, or Salado be better or worse?

i'd teach at belton/temple/salado before killeen/cc. i just like the towns more personally. nothing against any schools there.

the pay is better at killeen/cc than the others for sure though. we've had plenty of teachers leave for the money and come back at belton.

It depends on what you are looking for. If it is money, Killeen is it. Killeen pays far more than any other district in the area.

Other than that, there are a lot of very nice little schools in the area. There are tons of wonderful places like Academy, Holland, etc., but of course those places probably have one or two biology teachers so it will be a crapshoot as to who has an opening.

The reason Killeen/CC pay more is because they call it "hazardous duty" pay. I think Belton or Salado would be better. Mrs. AD retired after 30 yrs with CC. She is glad she doesn't have to teach anymore.

3rd...Midway has an opening for an English teacher HS.
