cjags - while I appreciate the albeit somewhat backhanded compliment, the superintendent had little to do with this.
This is about teachers and administrators doing whatever it takes to demand excellence in a very diverse school, not a homogeneous environment. It's easy to do it in one like that, but takes very hard work by teachers to make it work in a diverse environment.
BTW, we were a HAIR from being Recognized. The ONLY thing that made us unacceptable last year had to do with graduation completion rate....NOTHING to do with TAKS or anything like that.
I just want to clarify because we are so incredibly misunderstood and frankly mistreated by the local media and populace
Jan,
I realized I did not answer you post at all as far as the district was concerned. I apologize
It was not meant at all as a backhanded compliment. I have several friends in the district and am deeply invested in their success as well as TISD.
I know that successes are at the campus level and not directed just at the admin. I work in technology, but at the admin level. I know that BISD's success has very little to do with me and many at my level. other than providing a network that is stable and efficient enough to better education and automate stuff so the teachers can spend more and better time in the classroom, i had little to do with our TAKS rating. The teachers are the ones who deserve praise (at TISD as well)
My compliment to Battershell is that it shows improvement within the district as well as stability. I'm new here but i do understand that TISD has gone through its fair share of Sups before her. When you have stability at the top I think that does reverberate through the district and that is what i meant by that.
BISD was in the same boat last year as far as being a hair away from "recognized" status. I think if we could have proved 3-5 more students that left the district got their GED or graduated elsewhere we would have had it.
Again, sorry if the compliment came off as backhanded. I know the schools have a rivalry, but i only wish the best for all the students in the area.
