Took my daughter to the game....she came home from Kindergarten today asking if we could go because the kids at school were talking about it....she LOVED the cheerleaders and getting to wear her own cheerleader uniform.

Temple snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.....had a 24-20 lead with about two minutes to go, AND the ball.....fumbled it away on a pitch....

So sad....

Thought the Cats looked good in the 2nd half until the fumble. Have a lot to work on defensively. Offense looked good in spots. I liked the play calling by Coach Jim Taylor, who is back as offensive coordinator. I like how quick he gets the calls into the quarter back and the hurry up our offense has after each play. Cats had a chance to win the game if they would have just held on to the ball. Probably did not need to run a reverse on 3rd down, with time running down and being on their side of the field. Would have been probably better off running up the middle, and then punting the ball deep inside their territory.

New offensive coordinator? So, I assume they've ditched the ingenious line-your-all-American-tailback-up-2-feet-behind-the-guard-and-hand-straight-ahead offense?

While they still ran some of the wing T stuff, they were in the shotgun some and in a single set back while under center some as well.

I am still extremely pissed they had a guy the talent of Seastrunk for three years and they wasted him every single game. Put a guy like that in space in a spread offense and he may have rushed for twice as many yards as he did. The coaching the last several years has been a waste of my tax dollars IMO. I don't like to root for anyone to be fired, or to be out of a job, but I think it is time Bryce Monsen is moved on from the head reigns at Temple High School.

Yes Captain, reminded me of the 90's running the one-back offense. They also ran the spread and shotgun. Just need the younger guys to grow up and a little bit and hold onto the football. We'll see how it goes tonight.

It is depressing getting online Saturday AM and seeing the Cat's struggling. I was not aware Coach Taylor was back. He was my OL coach back in the early 90's and I hope he can help get things turned around.

NOT good.....Monsen "accepted" responsibility for the loss in the newspaper.....needs to take that a step further and go ahead and tender his resignation now!

Gosh, he is such a good man....such a nice man.

I know both of his kids well who are still in high school, and this saddens me, because I know the end is near for him and I always feel sorry for them having to hear people talk about their dad.

Losing to a team like Georgetown by 30 points is not going to be acceptable...not even in a town that is getting used to losing.

I don't know him personally and therefore place no indictment on him as a person, but the fact of. The matter is he hasn't come close to getting the job done as the head football coach at Temple High School. Especially when you consider he has pretty much been given carte blanch. i.e. Mcqueen as a "consultant", Robert Murphy and Craig McMurtry as assistants, etc.

Couple all of that with the gross misuse of talent over the last three to four years and it is just disgusting as a tax payer, HS football fan, etc.
I wish him luck, cause I think he'll need it, but I wish it for him somewhere else.

I agree with cru 100 percent. This has to be one of the worst coaching staffs in America. The offense they run and the talent they waste makes me literally want to puke. I was listening to a talk show Saturday morning that covers high school football and one of the hosts basically said that it is a shame that a place with such a great history in hs football, is so horrible right now.

He also said, "Bob McQueen needs to become the coach again or get his butt to the golf course". Amen to that.

Also, they talked about how Belton got such a hotshot coach by giving him everything he wanted like nice salaries for his staff and staff not having to coach many (or any in some cases) classes....giving them everything they wanted and needed, down to what they wanted for the postgame meal.

It comes down to how badly you want to win. The Friday night losses are on the school board and administrators. Pathetic.

small correction: assist. coach is mike mcmurtry. his brother craig is TC baseball coach.

I'm also not sure whether McMurtry or Murphy either one is still on staff. I honestly don't think they are. And I also think Mcqueen hasn't been on consultant status for a year or so...

And so it continues.....another game, another beat down.....on their way to a 1-9 finish with the lone win probably coming over an 0-10 team....

janag - Not sure what your deal is, but do you think my handle would be TempleAg if I lived in the Belton school district?? I live smack dab in the middle of the Temple school district though you couldn't pay me enough to make my kids go to Temple High School.

As far as Temple High Football, this is a top 10 program on the state wins list in the history of Texas football. WAY more should be expected. Leadership continues to fail to get dynamic coaches in to bring the program back up to par. Simple enough.

Well, sure, why not?

Thousand's of people live inside the City of Temple, but also inside the Belton Independent School District. The two are independent, and overlapping, political subdivisions. Not saying you do, and obviously you don't, since you said as much. But your handle doesn't necessarily give an indication of which school district you live in.

That said, I think pretty much everyone understands the need for a change of direction for Temple football. I wouldn't get your hopes up, though, for a return to late 70's through early 90's style glory, at least not at the 5A level.

Temple ISD has issues. It is shrinking relative to other 5A schools and school districts. In the 70s and 80s, Temple was a good sized 5A school. Since then, enrollment has been stagnant, while the UIL enrollment classifications have shifted upward. As a result, Temple is barely hanging on to it's 5A classification, and I expect will likely drop in the next realignment (assuming they don't completely overhaul the system, such as going to a 6A format, or dividing classifications into even more clear cut divisions).

The other problem is Temple ISD is landlocked. There is no more room for growth in the way of new housing. Temple ISD is about as developed as it's going to get. From here on out, everything will just get older - the population, housing, etc. In 25 years, everything in Temple ISD will be what it is today, except 25 years older. And if you ain't growing, you are declining. Simple as that.

Now, I won't argue with you on leadership. I don't know them, so I can't comment. There sure seems to be a problem there in some areas - state testing, football, etc. On the other hand, top tier academics within Temple High School, as well as fine arts, are outstanding. Even so, Temple ISD is not where it should be, and hopefully they will get it together.

Finally, janag has stated many times her opinion of Coach Monsen. He is supposedly a top notch guy, and a friend of hers. Nothing wrong with defending a friend against some pretty strong attack-style criticism. doesn't mean a change isn't needed. I think everyone knows this.

Regarding TISD, and future growth potential (actually lack thereof), I'll give you some examples you may or may not have been aware of:

Kegley Road divides TISD & BISD in several spots. In fact, some of Belton ISD extends East of Kegley Rd. to the Loop, and includes parts of the Wildflower Country Club subdivision

TISD ends at approximately Little Flock Rd on 53.

TISD ends roughly at the Loop north of town on I35.

TISD ends going out S. 31st well before you hit Taylor's Valley Road. On the left is Academy ISD, on the right is Belton.

S. 5th Street near the Waterpark? Academy ISD.

Temple Lion's Park is in Belton ISD. In fact, the boundary is Hickory Dr. between Stratford and about White Oak. Everything in that area across the street from St. Francis Episcopal church West is Belton ISD! TISD picks up West of Hickory at about White Oak and includes most of the Shallow Ford subdivision.

Going west on Midway Drive, you hit Belton ISD at the bottom of the hill on your left below Bonham Middle School.

Anyway, I never knew all of this until I looked at a map. It's an eye opener when you consider how little room is left for future growth in TISD. Simply put, there ain't none.

Pablo - You make some good points. As far as where I live, I guess there are probably people on here with New York City indicated in their sig and now live in California so that is not a for sure thing. It was just odd to me that she thinks she knows me or where I live (a little creepy).

I also agree some about the landlocked thing. No doubt that is a huge obstacle to numbers. HOWEVER, I coached at a tiny little place where you had to use every kid in the school and make them into something and we won like crazy.

My point is that coaching is a HUGE factor in winning games. You don't think McQueen in his prime wouldn't be making the playoffs every year right now? Get you a stud coach and Temple will win plenty of games.

Well me and the boy went to the game tonight. We had a great time but I feel bad for the team. Poor play calling, poor coaching all around. They played their guts out though till the last. Can't believe Munsen let the half run out with 23 sec left, 1st and 10 on the 40. Come on, at least give it a shot downfield! Upside, after one of the touchdowns a cheerleader gave him one of the towels they were throwing to the crowd. Very nice of her to come up and give it too him, the bigger kids were too much fo a 3 year old. Course I think that they were flirting with each other cause they kept making faces and laughing. 5 seconds left on the clock, 45 yard fg attempt to tie it up, missed. Heartbreaker.

Close but no cigar....

As I believe I have said here before, they will win one game this year if lucky, vs. Shoemaker who will go 0-10 for I believe the second year in a row, so it won't be a very meaningful win....

hate this for temple. a lot.

of course i'm going to cheer for the tigers in last nights game, but i want both teams at the top of the district. lot of great guys coaching temple football, but it just seems like somethings got to change across the river.
