Thanks, cjags. I appreciate your kindness.

It's a difficult, difficult year for Wildcat football and those of us who love this school. I teach one class of 10th graders, and the rest of my classes are 11th graders.

In my 10th grade Pre AP/IB class, I have THREE STARTERS.....that is virtually unheard of in advanced academics at the 10th grade level at our school. Most of the time, they are upperclassmen.

Interesting rumors I'm hearing, however, from members of the coaching staff about possible applicants.

Jan,

Hopefully that bodes well for the future. I hate it for the kids. I have been lucky enough to be part of some great teams, and in my age now I can say I was lucky to be part of some teams that were not very successfully like this year's Wildcats.

The thing is, that this year is not an anomoly for this coaching staff. Unfortunately it is more the norm. I hate it because I know that it is their livelyhood, but a change has to be made for the sake of the students in the program from here on out.

Like I said....they will beat Shoemaker and no one else. Shoemaker will go 0-10 for the second consecutive year.

Also, I dint think Temple is the Holy Grail of coaching gigs that it may have been considered in the past. Going after someone like steve spurrier or Jimmy Johnson is a waste of time.

Ok so after last night SOMETHING has to be done. I'm sure (and it's been said) Coach Munson is a nice guy, he's just not a good fit for Temple football. I went to Temple 89-93 and remember Temple Football. The packed stadium ( including students) the fans from around town, there was excitement and pride. I know the kids currently on the team have talent, they just need coaching and direction. Whatever happens, I'm afraid that any improvement won't be for several years (of course how could it get any worse than this year). New coach + new system = time. Old coach + ???? = time. No win ( no pun intended) situation for Temple for the next couple of years. With all that said, I will continue to get my season tickets and take my son ( who regardless of how the Cats do) to the games on Friday nights.

Just got a text from a friend of mine that he, Monsen, has been relieved from duty.

I hate that for him as a man to lose his job and how he supports his family, however it was a move that was way overdue.

Just business, and in this case, was overdue. If he's as good a guy as y'all say he is, and I have no doubt that he is, he'll find another job. Time to move on.

THS head coach not returning

Temple I.S.D. Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Bryce Monsen will not be returning for the 2011-2012 school year.
This is a mutual decision between Monsen and Dr. Robin Battershell, superintendent of schools, according to a press release from the district.

Coach Monsen is in his second year of a two-year contract and will complete the current school year with TISD.

"Coach Monsen is a good man and I wish him and his family the very best," Battershell said.

Job posting and subsequent interviews will be in line with the TISD Human Resources Standard Operating Procedures. The Administration anticipates posting the position in January, interviewing in February, and making a recommendation to the Board in March 2011.
