Need to find a semi-formal dress for my 15 year old. Other than Dillard's where do girls in waco shop for things like that. Thanks in advance and Gig'em

Locals, go to JoAnn's in West....head into town and turn left on, I think it is Marable. Now, I don't know if she has special dresses that aren't quite prom dress fancy.

What size is she and what do you mean by semi-formal?

Honestly, Dillard's or Beall's for fancier dresses...short or below knee that are a little more "special occasion" than a church dress.

FWIW, we always went to Dillard's right after prom and New Year's and loaded up on formals and semis and not one of them was over $35!!! I am talking $150 dresses marked down that low.

Let me know the size cause we have several you could choose from and then cut them off to what ever length you needed.

the theme is really wide open. It's Las Vegas - some are going as tourist and some dressed to go to a show. She honestly doesn't know what type dress she is looking for but I know it would be short.

It's in Temple called Sr. Guys. From what I can gather it's parent sponsored and each of the sr. guys invites an underclass guy and their date. It's at Bluebonnet Country Club in Temple. It's one of those things that I think there will be a wide range of dresses. I got my info from janag - her mom is my God Mother.

Okay, you need cocktail type short dress then. Let me ask my son's girlfriend. She is from Waco and has several dresses I have seen that fall into that category.

Dillard's in the BCBG section. Then my "source" said Waco doesn't have a good selection so she frequently got dresses in Dallas.

There is a store in the Grapevine Mills Mall....you enter at Rainforest Cafe entrance and turn right...it is dead end I believe with that walkway. Anyway, it has specialty dresses, bridals etc at drastically reduced prices. We have been there several times as well as the Dillard's here and in Temple.

Honestly, we just made it a habit of looking and bought when we found sales...several dresses at a time once or twice.

Also, if you have a son...the first time he needs a tux, buy one from the JCPenney Catalogue. They are $99 right after New Years and you cannot rent one for that. Also, there is an Al's Formals outlet in Houston where they sell previously rented tux. We bought son his bow tie, vest and wing collar shirt there and the total was $30.

Leon's Cinderella used to be a go-to boutique that my Mother shopped at. I also recall Shellenbergers and Cox's used to have nicer apparel for "events". Waco used to have a lot of higher-end boutiques back in the day. Now it is all run of the mill to fit the masses.

I shopped at all those places growing up plus Goldstein's (sp) and Mr. Jacks. The day of the specialty shop is gone I'm afraid.

FWIW, JoAnn's was bought out and is now located on the Interstate by Subway, just up the hill from Czech Stop. Would assume they've kept it pretty much the same.

Joann is probably 70 at least. A young couple bought it...can't remember who it was but I know them. I just found out about it last week when I saw the new location.

I could see 70....I know several people who are her neighbors...they all say she is a very sweet lady outside of the store as well.
