AA Division I Cameron Yoe vs. Dangerfield
AA Division II Lexington vs. Idalou
A Division I Mart vs. Goldthwaite

All three games will be played next weekend at Vernon Newsom Stadium in Mansfield. Good luck to all three!

Good luck to all 3? There are 2 centex teams in the 1A game, 4 total. Do we root for goldthwaite or mart?

At 11000, is that stadium big enough?

Pablo,

You are right about Goldthwaite and Mart....Personally I am rooting for Mart because I consider them more "Centex" than I do Goldthwaite.

I'm guessing they will clear the stadium after each game, but even at that it should be some good crowds. I know when Rosebud-Lott played Cisco in the 2002 AA Division II State Championship at Waco ISD Stadium they had over 13,000 there that night. The stadium itself was entirely full and so were the grass berms on both ends behind the endzones. I'm not familiar enough with Mansifield to know if it is built "bowl style" below the ground surface like WISD is or not. If so, that would allow for several thousand more seats....another good reason not to have a predetermined site for the games....

I was at the YOE and Lago Vista game last night. It was a great game for the YOE. The announced crowd was around 7,500 people. I thought there were more people there though. YOE fans traveled well. I think the Yoe will win State! They looked very impressive.

Looked like more than 7500 to me too. A LOT more. Hell the Cameron side alone was darn near full between the 10s and 2/3 of the way up. I read another figure of 8300. I guess the band takes up space too.

Yoe is impressive. Not due to any single athletic force (although they of course have great skilled players) but in areas that do not usually get the glory - picking up blitzes, kick coverage, fielding punts, all special teams, 3d down conversions, staying at home on misdirections, backside defense... Just a well coached, disciplined, scrappy group of kids.

Don't know how they stack up against daingerfield, but they put a beat down on a very good, previously undefeated LV last night. Hopefully Yoe has one more in 'em!!

And folks do you realize that EXCEPT for football, Lexington, Lago, and Cameron are all in the same district along with my Rogers Eagles. Talk about some tough competition in all sports with that type of athletic talent in the same district.

3Gen,

and it wasn't a bad volleyball district either. That girl from Rogers was a wrecking machine! And Cameron was awesome as well.

Did the Rogers kid get a scholarship?

They are NOT going to clear the stadium. It is going to be an absolute nightmare. The people that sit in the office in Austin have obviously never been to a small school game. The guy I talked to at the UIL said people "won't stay" for more than one game because there is "an hour" between games. Come on guy an hour is nothing and with Lexington and Cameron many of these people worked at Alcoa for years together. I imagine the UIL will eat crow on this one.

I know tons of our kids and their families are going up for the day and expect to watch all three games. Cameron is like family and is family for many of us, and they have played against the kids from Lexington for years and know them well. Even IF stadium cleared, they were just going to pay again and go back in.

Better get a decent seat early and don't leave it.

To make it worse, Cameron is (for the first time in the playoffs), the visiting team. That means fewer seats, even moreso.

In addition, Lexington is the visiting team beforehand.

I don't know how many people Lexington brings to games, but Cameron is a few kids away from remaining in 3A. They bring a BUTTLOAD of people, including former students who flock to these games. Heck, my brother has been to several games during the playoffs, and he lives in South Texas!!

Just a huge nightmare. I cannot believe this problem hasn't come up already.

Even Floyd Casey Stadium would've been better than this.

Very very poor planning by the idiots in Austin. I know you educators deal with it all the time. Come Sunday morning they will look back and say maybe this wasn't such a good idea.

In the fall of 1986 the Yoemen had 15K in the stands for a quarterfinal against Port Arthur Austin at Tulley in Houston. Yoemen may not draw that again, but UIL is clueless about small town draw in the playoffs.

Yep, having been at saturdays game in Austin, I can tell you, the stadium will be full. Real dummies in charge of this one.

If you make it this far in the playoffs, the teams deserve to decide where, and within a three day window when to play. UIL FAIL.

Pulling for the Yoe. Used to be in 17-3A with my Gatesville Hornets. Always loved playing them because we had a lot of good games with them back in the early 2000's...

UIL seems to have botched this one, especially with the fact that many of the teams are from Central Texas. This will lead to people staying in the stands after games to watch the other teams play. From what I understand there weren't many tickets sold to Cameron, 2,500. It seems as if a lot of people may end up getting left outside. Hopefully everything will work itself out, but I don't like that the UIL determines where the games will be played. I think there are plenty of facilities around the state that could handle a state championship game. Good luck to all the CenTex teams, especially the Yoe!

They did send 2500 tickets and they were sold out by about 2pm. However, someone went to Austin and got more tickets from the UIL and they have more to sell. I am not sure how many but they do have more. The local radio station interviewed the UIL Athletic Director today and he stressed that the stadium would not be cleared. However, at about 9pm tonight the station posted on their facebook a message encouraging everyone to get their tickets tomorrow morning at Yoe High School. It said the final word from Austin may not actually be the 'final' word. Tune into KMIL on thursday for more information. I really don't know what the 'might' change but any change would be good.

I think the one site would not be so bad if they had just spend the money to have reserved a larger venue.

Seems to be something going on. KMIL did an interview with the athletic director of UIL. On the news this morning they announced that there was misinformation in the interview.

They will be conducting another interview with another official from UIL later this morning. Whats funny is when I talked to Odenwald on Monday he really seemed arogant to me, he also sounded like that in the interview. So now to find out he was passing along misinformation is just funny to me. I'll be there no matter what, I just feel sorry for the elderly people that won't go because of the risk of no seats.

I have heard now that many of the Lexington fans are going to give up their seats if needed. They said it's the right thing to do. Another reason I love central Texas small towns.

According to the UIL, it wasn't about money. They asked several colleges to submit proposals to host the championship games. Nearly everyone declined to host the games, including SMU, the Cotton Bowl, Texas U., and A&M. Baylor said they would like to but that their locker rooms would be under renovations, the UIL nixed that.

Tune into KMIL during the 2PM hour today and you will catch another interview with UIL AD Odenwald. The topic will be clearing the stadiums, tickets, etc.
