How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have offered to help a young guy (freshman in High School) start getting ready for his high school baseball tryouts. His father recently passed away, and he doesn't have anyone to play catch with, throw batting practice, etc.

The only problem is, I am not sure where I can take him to do all this. Are there any ball fields in and around Waco that are open to the public in the evenings around 4 or so? It has been awhile since my high school baseball days and I don't have any kids so I am at a loss. TIA

The one by Tenneson Elementry. It's where the Waco lightning play. Waco High's practice field. There are plenty of places, just drive around and you will find one.

we have 2.5 acres and would be willing to shag balls for you if you want here?

our days of having a batting cage back there are over

do i need to call someone to get permission to use their fields?

mom, thanks for the offer, and we might take you up on it. i think i found a batting cage to use, but he might want to start doing some long toss so we will need more space. i will know more after i meet him tonight. thanks for yalls help/suggestions.

I am not sure who runs the Waco Lightning these days. There is also Riverbend Park. Several fields out there and probably someone you could ask. Seems there is always activity.

I'll try to find a contact source.

I could find you a place if you were willing to drive to West.

pretty soon now Riverbend Park will be busy

the problem with established practice fields(primitive backstops and base paths)is these fields get busy and stay busy

before try outs practice needs to be done NOW so any open area is okay for throwing a ball

Warren Park on Old Temple Rd in Hewitt has open areas all the time

Hunt, I pitched at A&M from '89 to '92. If he is a pitcher, I would not mind taking a look and seeing if I can help him any before the tryouts....weekend is the only time I would have and I live in Belton so it may not work, but let me know if I can help.

Well, I worked out with him today, and everything actually came together pretty good. He is a great kid, and it turns out he has an old batting cage in his backyard which we used for batting practice.

bpa, he said tonight that he does do some pitching. Thanks for the offer. I would image it would probably make his day to be able to have a former aggie ballplayer take a look at his form. I am working out with him tomorrow, so let me run it by him and see if he would like to do that.

Thank you all for the suggestions and assistance. You are really helping me bring some much needed happiness to this kid.

If he wants to pitch and you can hook up with bpaharris95, do it. My boys have done well from working with him.
