I like the list. Rhoades and Fedora are VERY talented coaches. Fedora is also an Aggie. Played baseball at A&M.

Gerald Perry is from Lorena

I believe Perry was a part of the Lorena state championship team in the 80's with John Henry.

I saw Bastrop play this a couple of times and they had some athletes. Perry had them flying all over the field. Bastrop was awful just a few years ago. Impressive that he's been able to turn the program around.

I've heard Rhoades is a really good guy and I'm sure he would be a great fit. Amazing run he took Cameron on.

Fedora... I've heard mixed reviews on, but he's had results, you can't deny that.

I think he would fit much better in a large school.

He won at a small one, but did not have the sharing attitude you have to have in one and two A where kids do all things.

This is the level where the starting center is also the drum major, the cheerleaders play flute, and the one act play cast has to practice late at night after softball and baseball are finished.

In a large school where such sharing is not the norm, I think he would be ok.

Well, I heard Fedora is a jackhole from several different people. I don't know the guy, so like Wash said, you can't argue with stats. Heard Rhoades is a great guy and Spradlin looks impressive.

I do know fedora. I had personal interaction with him over the welfare of a player, who was my student.

Heard some bad things about Fedora from his days at Rogers.

Pablo, from what I've heard from multiple people who have coached at the same school as Fedora is that he is a "jackhole" as Smirk put it nicely. I don't know him personally, so I can only go off of what I hear. I agree with 3GA in that he would probably fit in better at a bigger school.

I've heard the same things on Fedora. I had some interaction with him way back when he was an assistant at A&M Consolidated in the mid 90s....feel the same way.

That word has always cracked me up. I assume it is a combination of jackass and a-hole, but eliminating the supposed offensive portion of each. Kinda funny when you think of it.

Anyway, Coach Rhoades sure did a good job at Cameron, and has had success elsewhere. Would be interesting to see what he could do.

Just out of curiosity, why the hell would a coach want to leave a place like Abilene Cooper to come to Temple? Seems like a lateral move at best, if you ask me, and I cas't imagine the pay being all that much more.

Or Bastrop, for that matter. That school will be bigger than Temple soon, and likely will be 5A, whereas I see temple dropping to 4A in the not so distant future.

Anyone have any idea of the money Temple is looking at paying? I would think that both Navasota and Cameron would be in the same ballpark paywise as Temple with all the budget worries Temple has voiced concern over in the media the last couple of years.

As far as Fedora being a "jackhole," I have always said that a coach that is too nice will not be very successful. They have to have at least a little "jackhole" in them!

Temple may have Home Depot and Olive Garden back, but it really does seem like a lateral move to me as well...

Our superintendent is keeping the salary to be paid "close to the vest".

CP, I was wondering the same thing about the guy from Cooper. Must be unhappy, have central Texas ties?

Perry on the otherhand has central Texas ties (growing up in Lorena) and I believe Bastrop is opening a new high school next year, so I don't think they'll be moving up from 4A anytime soon. He may also have all his athletes moving to the new school, so that would probably be some motivation?

As far as cosches having some jackhole in them to be successful I don't necessarily agree. Plenty of examples for and against your claim (Dungee against, Parcells for) It's one thing to light a fire under a kid's butt and get after him, it's another thing to be a jerk. Is Fedora a jerk? Don't know firsthand, just from hearsay, but I would lean more to jerk than butt lighter.

Coach Spradlin from Cooper has some ties to the area. before he was at UH he coached at Westwood in Austin, his daughter and son-in-law went to UMHB, he may just be looking to get back to this part of Texas. He is a great coach and even better man, I would love to see him get the job.

That's great news! with the exception of fedora they all sound like great guys!

I heard - you know the grapevine - that only Rhoades and the guy from Abilene are still interviewing. Have you heard that? Do you know the salary of the last AD? another - I heard - cameron offered Rhoades a 'large' raise but there is no way, at least I don't think, that we can compete with Temple. His interview basically confirmed it was all about money - he's about to have 4 kids in college - who can blame him.

Ive not heard this, but that doesn't mean anything.

I just just heard what Janag posted. I think this is good news for Temple. One thing I think a lot of coaches consider is that Temple is still a one high school town and they don't have to worry about another school, i.e. in Spradlin's case Abilene high. i posted on another topic that Battershell may be offering to make the next head coach one of the top 5 paid coaches in the state. Also, A lot of people haven't forgotten the successful seasons under Coach McQueen, and I think they want that. Temple is still an attractive school and town regardless of the past 10 years

Just got word Spradlin was chosen for the job. Hoping he gets the thing turned around and headed in the right direction.

He was my first choice. He is dynamic. You guys are gonna love him.

In a unanimous decision of both the community search committee and the Senior Leadership Team, Dr. Battershell will recommend Coach Mike Spradlin for the Athletic Director/Head Football Coach for Temple ISD. Coach Spradlin is currently the Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach at Abilene Cooper High School.

More details to follow about when Coach Spradlin will start and a welcome reception for he and his family is in the works.

He's a great man, should do wonders for the program.
