Scuttlebutt is that it has to do with the budget cuts....they are cutting positions on his staff and doing some other things that made him mad and he left. Interesting, because he grew up in West and was pretty secure in his job. I would think it would be a decent job because it's a good community and we've always had athletes in our schools, we've just never seemed to be able to get over the hump in football (baseball has had some success).

We were always in the playoffs when Carlisle was head coach. Though, that was before your time Bohunk.

If I was a coach, I would jump at being at a school like West...a small town where moms and dads care about the program(and will take care of discipline problems themselves!)

Hey Bo...do you know Charles Franke?

I guess ok. See them from time to time but wouldn't say I'm close to them. Think he had cancer but is in remission now.

Yes, that was probably 10+ years ago and I think(fingers crossed) it was lymphoma.

years ago we were all in the same SS class at FUMC-Waco...their daughters were about my daughter's ages

Budget cuts to his coaching staff and a superintendent he hated. I dont know her but that is the word on the street. He couldnt handle her being an idiot...

The superintendent is Marty Crawford, who is the ex-Baylor baseball player. I've heard good things about him. Definitely a sharp guy.

Maybe you are talking about the assistant superintendent. She is a female, and I have heard less than flattering things about her.

One thing I've learned in my 2+ years of living back in a small town as an adult is that you may as well just discount anything you hear as distorted. I would be interested in hearing the first hand story.

All of this being said, Coach Wolf is a good man and I hope he lands on his feet somewhere.

Czechs in West should never trust a non-Bohonk The non-Czech influx into West is killing their culture.

same in Fredericksburg...bunch of damned Yankees visit as tourists and see the general prices are ridiculously cheaper than they are used to. They move to town and set up "quaint BS" that attracts other stupid Yankees! Big mistake having the Chamber of Commerce more than 3/4 full of foreigners!

That said, I am not native but married into it and for my children and their heritage of being half German I hate the way the town has become. My children are the 6th generation of direct settler descendants in my mil's family...all of them buried in and around Fredericksburg.

My husband's paternal family homestead was hand built with local limestone and hand felled trees made the lumber. After the grandparent's deaths the 6 remaining children fixed up the old place and listed it with a real estate agent. Made note of the well and cistern and the hand blown glass in the windows, beveled glass in the front door, hand carved mantle on the fireplace. The house had tremendous traffic through it...the sisters who all lived locally kept holding out for more money and when the highest bid was received they sold the place........some damned Yankee tore the homestead down and built apartments! The family knew nothing of that plan because there was nothing registered on the books before the sale.

I heard from a board member that the AD was told he would have to teach a class next year and that was the initial dispute that led to his resignation. If that is true, as a male teacher not coach, I know ADs are busy, but they are educators first especially with all the budget cuts coming.
LawCC

I disagree. There arent many 3A ADs that have to teach. ADs are not educators except in small schools. Imagine asking your principal or sup. to teach a class...wouldnt happen. ever

Law, it might not happen NOW but don't say never...our principal taught the speech/debate class.

I disagree, when I was in High School in West, my principal stepped in and taught my Algebra 2 class the entire second semester, because it was needed. At the school I work at now, a 3A school, my principal would easily step and teach a class if necessary, but our AD would throw a hissy fit if he was asked to teach.

My point is even though they are now ADs, at one time they were teachers first, sometimes sacrifices have to be made, and I don't think its too much to ask an AD/head football coach to teach class. We all are going to have to make sacrifices with these budget cuts.

I will say this....it's a small town, and since this happened, I've heard several different stories about why Coach Wolf stepped down (including the one about them wanting him to teach). Funny thing is I heard from a school board member as well that it was something totally different that triggered this.

I take each one with the grain of salt that is deserved with any scuttlebutt in a small town, and try not to get too mad at Coach Wolf or West administration because who knows what the real story is. Regardless, stuff happens. I count Coach Wolf as one of my friends. I don't care whose fault it is he's not there (his or administration's), I just hope he lands on his feet, and I hope we get a good coach/AD to replace him.

Ever forward.

That is so true of small towns, not surprising that there are conflicting stories, its most likely a combination of several. I hope West gets a good coach in there that can be successful, there are a lot of good kids out there that deserve it.

Yeah Coach Wolf was there for a long time. West was our big rival. They whooped us in football just about every year.

Word has it the applications have been flooding in. I believe they start interviewing soon as the deadline for receiving applications was last week. Will be interested to see who they hire, but it's looking like they will have a good pool of candidates to choose from.

I got the west news today (part of my bday present from grandparents every year) and there were 90 apps turned in. Lol my dads friends were joking with him and said they turned in an app for him.
I wish coach white hadn't had to deal with his ad in west when he was my basketball coach. He would have been a great candidate for ad and head boys basketball coach if they would have allowed that. He took us to the playoffs for the first time since podsednik played. Thqts saying a lot since we had no all-stars on the team to speak of. It was very similar to bcg basketball anew part of the reason I loved bcg's style of basketball.
I'll be interested to see who gets the hire.

Supposedly there are 6 finalists and they all have head coaching experience. No names given. I've heard there were some surprising names in there.

Talked to a kid on the team the other day, and he said Rusty Nail applied. I would be willing to bet that he gets the job.

Nothing solid. One name early on I heard was the Reicher coach. Again, all of these names (as far as I know) are stuff through the grapevine so who knows.

I can almost gurantee Rusty Nail is not applying for the West job. He is in a gold mine at Mart. He has turned down several jobs better than the West job the past few years.
LawCC

Agreed. Rusty Nail did not apply...Reicher coach Mark Waggoner would be an interesting hire..Would love to see how he did without recruiting...Also he has recruited some of West's athletes in the past so he should know what they have...

This is true...and was a sticking point with our former coach. Coach Wolf strongly disliked St. Mary's in West (our K-8 Catholic school) because several kids went to Reicher (they recruited them). I told members of the coaching staff several times that they should work on including St. Mary's on stuff (e.g., working with the St. Mary's coaches on sharing offenses, etc.) rather than running it down, and they wouldn't lose kids to them all the time, but no avail. There have been some good athletes come out of that little school.

Very interesting Bohunk... Wolf went to St. Mary's and played football for them.

aggiekasberg: I played during Carlisle's last couple of years.

You are correct. As I said, I have a lot of respect for Coach Wolf and consider him a friend. That was one thing I disagreed with him on though....of course, it wasn't just him. St. Mary's has been treated as a b-stard stepchild since I was in school. I've always thought that was the wrong approach.

They hired the Moody coach. Interesting hire, considering they supposedly had 60 applicants, but this guy is apparently a friend of the superintendent
