I thought the Temple Wildcats had a very productive scrimmage against Hays Consolidated last night. There were some good plays and some bad plays, which is what I would expect for the first time with a new coaching staff and young players.

Some of my thoughts: Offense looked good running the spread. Zach Allen looked comfortable running the "hurry up" offense. Allen threw the ball well. Receivers need work on catching the ball. A lot of balls were dropped. Keith Buhl looked good running the ball and catching the ball out of the backfield. The coaches get the plays into the QB quickly. At times, the QB was waiting on the referee to blow the whistle so they could run a play. It's hard to tell how good Hays actually is, but it was definitely an improvement from last year, no matter who we played.

Defensively: They ran a 3-4 defense. Secondary gave up a couple of long throws. Hays ran a spread offense against us and did not look as organized as our offense, but they were still able to make some good plays. The usual first game mistakes happened like wrapping up, missing assignments and dropped interceptions. There were a lot of hard hits on their players and fumbles were caused because of them. There were always several players swarming to the ball carrier.

Kicking Game: Joseph Pickett kicked well. He kicked several kickoffs into the end zone that had some good hang time also. The kickoffs were controlled (kickoff team did not run down the field) and the Hays returners were dropping the balls. Pickett made a field goal during the timed quarters.

There were 2 timed 12 minute quarters that Temple easily won, 17-0. A penalty that occurred well behind a breakaway run, called back a touchdown, and then we ended up with no points, was a mistake that will hopefully be addressed. Overall, it was a good starting point to hopefully get us back. Like I said, don't know how good Hays actually is, but it will be fun to watch this offense and see if they can compete with the rest of the district.

Also, the players were wearing numbers, but they were the usual numbering. No single digit numbers. I heard the Blue Front/White Back pants have a zig zag between the colors down the side of the pants. I heard the players like the new design, but those pants should not be messed with.

Re: the uniforms. You can preserve the tradition and still not be running around in 70's era attire.

I'm just glad the Wildcat tradition isn't leather helmets.

Thanks for commenting on the game.

I didn't go to the game. The way Temple has played, uniforms are as exciting as anything else to talk about, I guess.

Smirk, I taught Zach last year. He has the cockiness of a winner. I know Joseph pickett from the halls. Great kid.

This coaching staff is going to be special. The country club attitude is finished. Spradlin already had his stamp on these kids.

Pablo- please, please, try not to post unless you have something productive to add to the conversation. I know you are trying to be annoying, but you really don't know what you are talking about.

Good to hear

Did you really have to post that? Don't answer, I already know.

Thanks and Gig 'Em

Janag- My sister had good things to say about Coach Spradlin. I am looking forward to the season.

Smirk,
Why in the hell did you post that? What problem can you possibly have with "good to hear" in response to Janag's post? I was responding positively to what I consider good news from janag, and you rip me for it? What is your problem?

Smirk,

I appreciate your help ( I taught smirk and his sisters, so we go way back), but Pablo and I are cool (at least on my part).

I piss off a lot of people. I understand that.

It is nice to have people watching out for me!

My part too. Love Janag's posts.

I still don't know what I did to get reprimanded.

Pablo, I guess you aren't understanding the sarcasm of what I said earlier. I obviously know you were not at the scrimmage since you only wanted to talk about the uniforms and not the game, which was the reason of the original post. I guess it's just me, but I took your first comment as bashing our tradition and that we need to get over it. Your second comment added more to it. We all know there hasn't been much for Temple to cheer about lately and the uniforms are probably the best thing to talk about. BUT, a new season has started and when you start talking negatively about the Wildcats, I am probably going to defend them. I should probably clear up that your response to Janag was not meant to be about what you said specifically. I was trying to make a point about your earlier posts, and I guess it came out wrong. Sorry if I got out of line here. Just wanted to talk Wildcat Football and what was going on with the Program.

Edit: Just to note started writing before I saw you last post
