An AISD bus carrying Elementary school and middle school kids crashed this morning with a Lowe's truck in heavy fog.

What Ive heard:
The bus driver was hurt very badly, and is critical. One child was hurt with serious injuries. Multiple others with less and varying injuries. Lowe's driver had minor injuries.

Please pray for the injured, their families, and the AISD community.

AISD has had a tough year. A very popular Academy high school girl was killed in a car wreck this past fall.

From what I heard from teachers there the bus driver isn't expected to make it and one girl may have a broken back. 14 kids hospitalized last I heard.

This is just so sad. One of my students drove up on the wreck on her way to school and was visibly upset all day.

the bus driver has been working for AISD since I was in elementary school there. my brother, a member of the Little River VFD, was first on the scene. he's a little shooken up from the whole thing. he's also got elementary age kids at Academy and had a niece on that bus.

I will edit this because I do not have independent confirmation. I had heard that the bus driver had passed away, but have seen no reports to that effect. I hope I heard wrong and will try to find out.

Scott and White's website says that the bus driver is still in critical condition.

Sad coincidence, my wife is an AHS grad and the entire senior class in 1977 was in a bus wreck about a week before graduation. They had just completed graduation rehearsal and were driving to Temple for ice cream when the brakes failed on the bus at the 95 & 36 junction, they were hit by a Bandas Co. dumptruck. Injuries but no fatalities.

Our prayers are with the Academy family and the injured.

Janag, correct, at least from what I hear. Teens + text messaging and facebooking = no telling what rumors get out.
