I may be dumb, but what the hell is couch surfing?

I assume it's a happy hour or something, but I could be wrong. Never heard of couch surfing.

Nope. I was wrong. It is for traveler's who want to crash on people's (strangers') couches. Basically get free lodging on the road.

I could see how it could be fun. I could also see how it could go wrong, or basically be used as a way to shack up with a stranger.

And it doesn't sound like something for old people.

yeah it's free lodging, but it's more than that. you're also getting to experience the place you're going from a local's point of view. and you're making connections with people from all over. i've surfed around europe and hosted here in waco, as well as meeting a lot of people in college station when i was there who are just great people to hang out with. olds don't surf as much because they've got families, but i've seen some olds that travel and more that host.

Heh. Out of curiosity, what criteria does one have to meet to be considered an "old"?
