Last night I was already in bed at nine since I am still post surgical and tire out. For about ten minutes I heard what seemed to be a fireworks show in west temple. It was not fourth of July . Anyone else hear it and hav any idea what it was

Thanks. Just wish they had publicized more that they were going to do it. I am recuperating from a hip replacement and the first few almost sounded like gunshots. Then it changed to a sound more like fireworks. I am walking better, but not up to going outside and trying to figure out what was happening. I expect fireworks on the fourth and new years, not on a random weekday in April.

The last night what sounded like a helicopter kept circling. I still have enough pain that sleeping is tough. Days are great, but this was a second near sleepless night due to strange things.

Hopefully life will restore to the quiet nights soon.

I sleep with loud fans on.

Tends to drown out noises like that.

Go to Natural Grocery on I-35 and the Loop. Get some chamomile capsules. knock back 2-3 before bed. Sleep tight.

If you need something stronger, try Valerian.

Also, ear plugs, fans, or there are even clock radios that play rain, waves, wind sounds. All good.

If you drink alcohol before bed, stop. It interrupts sleep.

night-night

If it is exterior noise that is the problem, allow me to re-emphasize foam ear plugs.

If it is general stress, anxiety, etc.. chamomile works great.

I have a great deal of night time pain as my body is still recovering from the hip replacement. Last night I might have slept two hours total. Can't take pain meds. Just tylenol and benadryl and it is not enough. And when I hear really unusual noises for our area just as I am trying to sleep it scares me enough that sleep is nearly impossible that night. Weeknight fireworks that sound like gun shots at first, or a chopper that might be police looking for someone and won't go away--it lasted at least fifteen minutes, pretty much do away with sleep. And I won't wear ear plugs. I live alone and NEED to be able to hear is someone is breaking into the house.

Does chamomile really work? I may look into that.

Yeah, you can get tea. If you do that, get one that is chamomile only, and not a mixture with a bunch of other herbs. Knocking back a couple of capsules is just easier than making tea.

It has a mild sedative quality that can help with sleep and combat insomnia. And, it doesn't disrupt sleep patterns like banadryl, or worse, alcohol.

It has been used it for thousands of years.

Oh, and it's cheap!

Doctor is who said to use benadryl, not much of an herbal believer. I will research to be sure it won't interact with any of my meds and then try the herbal formula because I am so tired right now.

Yeah, benadryl is good stuff. Non-addictive, and can knock you out. I just don't use it because it leaves me drowsy in the morning, and believe it or not has caused sleeplessness with me before. Frankly, I rarely take anything because I can't stand taking pills.

But, yeah, ANY herbal remedy needs to be checked with your doctor. Just because they are "natural" and largely unregulated does not mean they do not have medicinal properties, and along with it, potential side effects. There are chemicals in herbal remedies just like medicine. Some herbal remedies are quite powerful. I just suggest chamomile because it is mild, with no side effects that I'm aware of, and frankly, it works for most people.

Hope you get past this and get some deserved rest!
