The Taylor High School Band has a winning tradition. This band has been going to State marching contests since 2006. It took Jacques Brown 3 years to build it to that level, but through hard work from the students and his assistants they got and have maintained it. Mr. Brown has moved on and TISD is accepting applications from the best.

Do you think there will be a Floydada conection with the next hire?

I have no problem with cronyism as long as it is good cronyism.

I doubt it. The administration knows how good this program is and it would be unforgivable to let it slide. The reputation is great and I am absolutely certain there are some strong #2 band directors from 3A and 4A programs that marched in the state contest in San Antonio that would like their own gig.

I have been told Scott Simmons has been hired. I was hoping for someone from a 3A or 4A program. He is from a 2A program, but has taken them to the State Marching Contest in San Antonio a few times. Does anyone know this guy's bio?

No, but if I was a Taylor marching band enthusiast, and even not knowing a thing about him, my reaction upon hearing the news would be more along the lines of "Welcome to Taylor, Scott. We're glad you're here."

But that's just me...

I reckon with over 9000 posts you'd be willing to say just about anything to anybody at the drop of a hat.

We will welcome and support the director and program. We are always pushing for excellence in all school programs. You must make a great hire. The school can control that.

The rest is money and if this state doesn't get it's legislature in line, those that can afford it will send their kids to private schools. The rest will watch as Austin cuts education over and over again while the resources are sent to campaign supporters, rainy day funds (until that money is diverted to some political black hole), etc. I can't wait until 2013.

Mr. Simmons came from Thorndale (2A) and started with 16 players and grew it to 52. They were good enough to go to the State Marching competition and always finished in the top 10. The growth of the Thorndale program is encouraging. I believe Taylor High School has 58 in the band. They should be at least 80 for a school this size.
