Today at Ft Hood, I met a living Medal of Honor Recipient. Ft Hood was having the ribbon cutting / grand opening of the new Barracks building that had been built for the wounded warriors in the Warrior Transition Brigade at Ft. Hood. I was serving as the VIP usher. One of the VIPs in attendance was Retired Naval Lieutenant Michael E. Thornton. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for saving the life of his superior officer and ensuring the safe extraction of his entire team on 31Oct, 1972.

The really humbling part of meeting him was when he told me "Thank You for Your Service." I was taught to Thank Veterans whenever I met one. I thanked him for his service, and then he asked me if I was cadre or if I was one of the WTs. Thats when he thanked me for my service and he told me that he wished they had something like the Warrior Transition Brigade when he came back injured from combat.

One last interesting fact about Michael Thornton--he was Chosen BY Richard Marcinko to be one of the founding members of SEAL TEAM 6.
