My gf is going to an interview at a Scott & White clinic in Bellmead and they will have a realtor for her to talk with while she is there. She would be open to living anywhere around Waco provided the commute isn't too bad, but I haven't seen too much talked about on the north Waco/Bellmead side. Is she better off asking about the Midway or Hewitt area? How would the commute be from there?

Hewitt's commute is easy because she would hit the loop south of Waco proper and turn off it, into the S&W parking lot! I would guess it's 20 minutes but a calm drive.

China Spring will be about the same but more congested because she will cut through busier areas.

I personally would avoid all Bellmead/Northcrest/Lacy Lakeview areas because of the schools involved even though NC/LL kids will go to Connally ISD and it is the better of the two.

She doesn't want to live in the Bellmead area.

There is really no bad commute in the Waco area. From the Woodway/Hewitt area, you can take the Loop or I-35 to the clinic.

My GF is a teacher here in waco. When we were considering moving, she asked her kids what parts of town were safest. They literally answered as follows:

"Miss, Avoid North waco/bellmead its terrible. And stay out of south waco. Dont live in the East or West either. And Central Waco is pretty bad too."

I always got a kick out of that. but for safety reasons,, (and I think it is a big concern in Waco) try Woodway. The drive will be less than 20 minutes. I have timed it before. There are plenty of good duplexes down there, and as far as apartments there is a place called Saddlebrooke which are amazing. Gated, security Cams, and Saddlebrooke Wests facilities are really amazing. worth a check out.

So no where in Waco is good/safe? I have to disagree with that.

haha, that's funny Robert. i cracked up when i read that. if you want to live in waco you could live off of lakeshore/lake air area and that would be a fairly short commute on lake shore to bellmead. there are apartments and duplexes, but there aren't as many to choose from. Hewitt has quite a few duplexes and if you're close to 35 it is a very short drive to bellmead.

Here is a great idea my daughters gave you...contact Harrell Realty as they are managers of LOTS of house, condos, apartments but ask them specifically for condos or apartments owned by Kam Parker....he will come to your unit and take complaints or answer questions in a heartbeat. He built a quadplex and was contacted while it was being painted with prospective renters asking him about making it deaf friendly, sonic boom alarms that have flashing lights etc and he readily agreed, ask them if they had more suggestions or pamphlets about HoH/deaf safety products. He is a fabulous owner to work with.

The girls live next door to the deaf couple. Their 2/2 apt has a large living area with 10' ceilings, fans in all rooms and hook ups for w/d...$700mo. Energy eff water heater and AC/furnace and double pane windows their elec bill is $65mo.

If I were to buy a house in the Waco ISD, that area or Ridgewood would be the place to look. Those apartments would not, too many MCC kids live there and it seems like there is always a lot of crime in those complexes.

When I'm talking to my mom and sometimes she'll tell me about how bad the traffic was near Valley Mills and Waco Dr. and I have to keep from laughing.

One thing to keep in mind with Robert_Rodriguez's comments. Be sure to find out which areas are North Waco, East Waco, etc. If you interpreted his post the way I read it, it sounds like South Waco is great. But... South Waco is really what looks like East Waco on a map and looking at a map, what's North of Waco is called East Waco.

Bottom line, just move to Hewitt and be done with it. When you get more established, you can move to Woodway. Although, Bohunk's idea about living in West wouldn't be too bad if you don't mind I-35.
