Sorry. That's the second time I know of it's been taken off the market. Sellers must be yoyo's. I'll find out.

It is under contract. The option period is almost up. My friend said she'd let me know how that goes.

Oh well. Probably should blow off Belton and move to Temple or Heights.

I don't love Clem's, but I don't think it's any worse than any other place around here.

I'd say Rudy's, even though it's a chain, would be the best.

That's just my opinion, of course, which isn't worth much.

Almost 30 posts since 8 pm.

Want to get traffic on this board? Belton vs. Temple and BBQ

Yeah, Rudy's is probably as good as any of them.

I do think Schoepfs BBQ Chicken is pretty damn good though...

If you want good local, traditional fare, here's a few:

Temple - Jody's, Wes's burgers, Fat Charlie's,
Cheeves

One you wouldn't expect - OBriens ribeye steak. Great deal at under $10

Belton - Jaliscos, gin, schoepfs, coronas

Not once did I get defensive, Cjag. Heck, I've given up defending Temple. I'll never win this battle.

Besides....I'm actually from Cameron.

OK. I will not be obnoxious about Belton

you didn't at all. But it went there. which is fine. both towns need each other in a lot of ways and it's truly one of the more friendly rivalries i've ever been a part of.

Yeah, it does seem to "go there"

When a thread like this comes up, I try to give the best input I can, without regard to where I grew up, what town I "like", etc.

My "favorite" town may not be the best location for an inquiree due to distance, industry, whatever.

My favorite town might be Georgetown, but I'm not gonna tell someone they ought to move there when they take a job in Waco.

This thread is an example. I wouldn't live in Harker Heights, but for OPs situation I felt it might be a good option, so I threw it out there.

I love north Temple, but for OP I think it would NOT be a good location to settle...

On the other hand, if someone is taking a job off the north loop in Temple, North Temple would be a good choice ---- second only to Cameron

My apologies if I instigated a Belton-Temple fight. If it's any consolation, both are neck and neck at the top of my list since those seem to be the only places in the greater Fort Hood area with a true sense of community.

If anyone is familiar with Orange, Lubbock, or El Paso I've lived in the historic distric, Tech Terrace, and Kern Place respectively to give you an idea of the type of neighborhood and houses we like.

The Killeen/Harker/Nolanville area just seems to be a big suburban mass of transient housing (a lot like where I grew up in DFW, no thanks.) That's fine for most Army folks, but just not my cup of tea.

I know earlier a couple of folks said Scott and White wasn't a great employer, but does anyone have any experience with or have a family member working at their new children's hospital?

My wife does pediatric oncology which is why she'll probably wind up looking for a job there instead of the new Seaton hospital.

Sorry. My BFF said it depends on where in ft Hood you will be working. If it's 1st cav for example the only gate you want to use is the main gate off of 190, even with the pending construction. Let me know and I'll see what other areas she suggests for ease of entrances. Her husband is in the military, she grew up in Belton and they have moved back and forth a few times. They own a house in Nolanville, and will be moving home this summer. Yea!

I take back everything nice I said about historic homes. Got a call at 7 AM at the office that our hot water heater was out. 20 minutes later water was running out from under our den

Screw old homes.

Haha, I'm actually about to head home to meet a plumber. I've got a pipe leading to a toilet that's busted so I feel your pain.

Then again, I know plenty of folks with new construction who have worse issues (shifting foundations, cheap building materials failing, etc...)

Well this was probably due to crappy temple water.

There seems to be a huge need for home care nurses in this area. I know this because my mom had knee replacement surgery and had home care for awhile. They were very busy, or so it seemed.

Would your wife be interested in anything like that? Lots of old people in the area.

Here's my honest, non-sarcastic take:

I am familiar with Lubbock and Orange. The closest thing to a historic district like those, BY FAR is north Temple.

I am very familiar with Belton's historic district, and frankly, I just don't think there's much to it. I'm referring to the area between 6th and 13th, and along main, wall, penelope, and beal.

It's small, there's not much in there, and its full of apartments, old duplexes, and dilapidated properties. There are certainly a few nice older homes with some personality, but not a lot of them. I just don't care for it. That's not to say belton is bad - there are many nice neighborhoods (off loop 121, off Ave. D, turtle creek area, belton high school, and some VERY nice areas headed out toward the dam, off 439, and others).

But those aren't what you like.

North Temple's historic district is a little smaller than lubbock's and a little larger than orange's. keep in mind that while Orange and belton are the same size now, that hasn't ways been the case. Orange was once much larger town than belton, and certainly was when their respective early/mid 20th century historic districts went up.

It all comes down to personal preference. With regard to local historic districts, I don't care for belton's. There's a lot to like in belton, but for me, old town living isn't one of them.

TexasTiger,

If you're even remotely interested, we are thinking of putting our house on the market in a few months. Not for the aforementioned leak. We just both work in Belton and our kids go to BISD. As much as we love the historic district, we're ready live a little closer.

If so it's not on the main couple of streets (meaning it's on 15th not 7th-13th) but a block off and a few 100k less than some of the others that are a block or two away from me.

ETA: it is not a slum houses that are a few blocks away from the nice ones. 2300 sq feet 4 br 2.5 bath that is still in pretty good shape.
