I would rather hear news reports on how much the grass has grown in the past 5 minutes than have to listen to the second by second updates of Baylor womyns basketball again

A glorious Easter. Christ has risen, baseball season started and bu is done!

I'll have to make sure and watch Channel 10 tonight. We've stopped watching the local news very much except for Rusty and the weather.

We have friends who have season tickets to women's basketball and they have gotten FURIOUS, very very angry when anyone makes comments about Griner's appearance. The wife started arguing and turned red because someone suggested Mulkey be fined for playing a guy on the team.

I just sat quietly and after the regular season ended I was personally asked my opinion...that was a mistake. I pulled up physical changes in pubescent boys on my phone and read them off and topping the list was formation of an Adam's apple(specifically listed as not visible in girls/women), deepening of voice...the silence was golden! THEN there was chaos because the anger was palpable.

At the end of the discussion I was asked, so now what? It's over Baylor made first round of playoffs but at some point Griner may play again and some team is going to push for testing and publicly humiliate Mulkey and the Baylor program then I could see Baylor having to forfeit all games won that Griner played in. My last comment was priceless...Glad it's not A&M cause they have this Code of Honor thing about Aggies don't lie, cheat or steal or tolerate those who do. Breaking that can be grounds for expulsion and with Baylor and Griner debacle the campus would be cleared...staff too!

speaking of sports radio....

i was very sad to learn that 101.7 in Killeen is now an 80's pop station. i really enjoyed it in that it was a chance to take a break from the Baylor Sports shows and get to listen to Dan Patrick. What happened there?

All my baylor loving students were railing against the refs today.

I am just sad that WE so underplayed against Nebraska. The door was left open, and we had stayed home.

And no way she would pass dna and hormone testing.

Could she be taking male hormones?

My gut feeling (along with some scuttlebutt that I heard) is that she has no "male parts." BUT, she is not 100% female and must take estrogen to retain her femaleness...and has stopped taking it..and this is why she could not have played in the Olympics. Perhaps next time they come around she will go back on it and be tested as normal.

It is certainly a sad situation, and I feel bad sometimes for all the grief she catches...but IMO she is gaining an unfair advantage by deliberately doing what she's doing.

my MiL is a Women's hoops diehard and loves Baylor. She and I talk sports a lot and she asked why I didn't think Griner played in the Olympics.

I just didn't have the heart to have a candid conversation with my 65yo daughter-of-a-Southern-Baptist-Minister MiL.

C-jags, maybe you should start off with: in tennis everyone is okay with mixed doubles, right? BU womens basketball shares some traits.

Why does your mother in law think Griner didn't play in the olympics...?

If she's anything like the baylor fans I know, she really thinks it was so Griner could attend summer school/be with family, etc etc

It's crazy that it's taboo to address some things like that.

Sometimes I'm not sure how I feel. She has had to endure a ridiculous amount of abuse, but I've also seen some of her old tweets and she has quite the foul mouth...talking about laying pipe to people and all kinds of crazy stuff.

I'd really just like to know the real story on her condition....but we aren't supposed to ask about that....even though whatever she has gives her an unfair advantage.

she thinks it's the time with family/school thing.

She's a former college player as well as my FiL and they follow Women's Hoops religiously. Go to the Big XII tournament every few years. One time I got dragged to the NCAA final four with them. had to be one of worst three days of my life that could make for a great story sometime

what's funny is that she was a coach for 30 years and is as feminine as can be, but is oblivious to some of the stuff.

I just know that if you met Griner in male dress and was told her name was Bart or Bill, NO ONE would think that guy is really feminine. She could pass as male with only a few changes in dress.

Sadly, she will never really appear to be female.

i think it's a lot like Lance doping, Manti T'eo the PSU scandal before last year, and steroids in the 90's.

they're ratings grabbers. the media knows there's something there. they aren't stupid. after they've outlived their usefulnes the'll investigate and expose it.

3rd...the problem is last year there was talk of Brittney's situation and NO ONE will come forward and say Coach you have your player submit to these tests or she can't play. IT IS OBVIOUS. Family commitment was BS dreamed up to give her an out for the Olympics...someone with a brain said if you play they will have you tested and once that is public the NCAA won't let you play.

During all of that the team was introduced to Obama and Brittney had on a pantsuit with a vest and white shirt and a loosely tied tie...she was indeed dressed like a man. she needs to decide what it's going to be...female and wear the clothes or male and then stay off the women's teams. She needs to embrace femininity and wear less masculine slacks or wear a tailored skirt...having your coach cover you and say for shame for shame when people question your gender then dressing like a man is just like thumbing your nose to those asking!

I am torn about my feelings toward HER...if someone is peddling her as an elite female player and they KNOW of her condition they should be held accountable. In the 50s and 60s all Eastern Bloc/Russian Olympians that looked bulky were questioned and US people were furious if a foreign shemale won an event. This is no different except no one is being vocal publicly. I have empathy for her because indeed she appears to be in gender limbo.

I would bet she has both ovaries and testicles...maybe a mini ***** as well....she definitely doesn't have even breast buds that 10yo girls will begin developing. Could be testicle and uterus but there is testosterone being produced somewhere in that body and not enough estrogen to counteract it.

The NCAA doesn't have a policy against transgendered players. I think in a smaller division 3 school there is a girl that's now a boy and plays on the MBB team. But Griner is not transgendered so to speak. I think it is correct that Griner should be taking hormones to inhibit the testosterone. Griner hasn't taken those since highschool thus the development of more male traits, the height being one of them. From what I understand, if the hormones were taken, thus taking away the advantage Griner has and male traits, Griner could play in the Olympics. I think.

mazzag, that is my understanding as well....but I don't claim to be an expert...I will reiterate again that I feel bad for her. She is a human being like the rest of us.

If she was taking hormones of any kind, wouldn't that disqualify her from the Olympics. No matter the purpose?
EMY92

I believe the genetic designation is XXY, instead of XX for a "normal woman". For someone with her genetic disposition to compete in the Olympics, she would have to be taking some female hormones to make her less masculine. I think the athlete has to be one them for a certain period of time before the games begin.

Rumor has it that she was on the hormone therapy until midway though high school, she stopped taking them to gain a competitive advantage.

**Please note that I'm not stating this as fact, just what I've heard. I could be a load of crap.

She stopped as a freshman in hs. Again, she did not choose to be born that way, but she knowingly stopped for an advantage, therefore, IMO deserves any sheat talk she gets

No one dares say that Baylor and Griner choked. Louisville coach used the same tactic that the Bulls used on LJ to stop the streak. Baylors supporting players could not make up the difference until tjhe second half and then it was too late.
