In two weeks, I'm taking my oldest daughter to Texas to enroll at Texas A&M for Fall 2013. I want her to see some interesting Texas-y things that she's never seen before.

We'll be driving into Waco on the weekend of June 1st which would put us into Brownwood on Friday night, May 31st if everything goes to plan.

So, what I wanted to know is, does anybody know if they still cruise Center Avenue on Friday/Saturday nights in Brownwood?

15 years ago, when I used to drill out there with the National Guard, that scene was huge. I'm curious if it's still going or if kids have gotten bored with cars and meeting people in real life and if they're all at home on Facebook now.

I'm already looking forward to a Route 44 Cherry Limeade at Sonic in Brownwood.

If the Brownwood scene isn't happening, how's "The Valley" in Waco these days?

Brownwood is kind of in that no mans land among TexaAgs directional forums.

May want to also post this on the West Texas forum

I will say that although I do not know what they do in Brownwood, I feel confident there is an Allsups nearby at all times

Yeah, struck out on Brownwood. Nothing on Center and even the Sonic wasn't happening. I guess everybody was at The Red Barn.

But, I did find some of the small town Texas I was looking for in:
Brownfield, Lamesa and Coleman
And successfully navigated the speed trap in Bangs.
My daughter asked - how did you know those cops were going to be there? I said - experience. Just wait 'til we get to Calvert.

And that was the first time I'd driven West to East through Gatesville at night on US Hwy 84. Even though I worked as a Union Ironworker building one of the prisons out there during the Christmas break of 1988/1989, I didn't realize how massive the prison complexes in Gatesville are. Really stunning at night with those yellow lights.

The Brownwood PD shut down the Center ave drag around 1999 or 2000. No real reason other than kids getting into mischief. I loved going to the drag in high school- superb people watching
