Specifically, will Belton and/or Temple be any good?

Will Temple put a defense on the field? Will the cats allow less than 40 points a game?

Will Belton, the largest school in the district, manage to crack the top 4?

What are each teams playoff chances?

Midway and Cove are the favorites, right?

What do y'all think?

Love my Wildcats, but I fear another bad year.

Btw, this should be our last in 5A.

I'm positive we'll be going down to 4A next year.

Maybe that'll help!

Meanwhile, Go Big Blue!

Dropping to 4A. Hate to hear that...

Yeah, we're losing too many kids to BeltonandAcademy.

Wonder if Temple will align north with Waco, Cleburne, Burleson, etc

Or south with Georgetown, Bastrop......

Approaching 20 hours and not a single Cameron Yoe will win the Super Bowl post...

I think I'm losing my mojo

I'm a Cameron Yoeman, originally, but know absolutely no one playing, now.

Saw in today's Temple Telegram that both Temole and Cameron have a kid playing in this weeks THSCA All-Star game.

i don't know if normal order will be restored. KHS and Harker Heights were a bit unexpected last year.

I knew KHS was good at the 4A level, but not good enough to knock off 2 from the playoff perch. Harker Heights was a complete surprise to me.

UIL snapshot day is what October? Then UIL releases new districts in January?
Captain Pablo

I think that's right.

Janag can feel free to correct this, but its my understanding that Temple managed to stay in 5A last time by including their alt campus students in the snapshot number, which is perfectly within the rules, but you don't have to..

I guess they're gonna throw in the towel and concede the inevitable this time...

Pabs,

i believe that's correct.

I think Midway was using it vice versa to stay 4A for a while.

I believe if Temple wanted they could "petition up" to stay in 5A. You can only petition up though. Can't petition down.
Captain Pablo

I think that's correct, but they won't. At some point, you've just gotta accept your classification to remain competitive in all activities.

something i was just thinking about is how the 6A status will change any of this. i'm not positive when it kicks in and exactly how it works, but with this, doesn't the capacity for being 5A drop somewhat to the 4A level?

meaning Belton, Midway, and Killeen's might go up to 6A and Temple remain at a 5A? I ask out of ignorance.

Man, I dunno. If that's the case, it sounds like it will be pretty much the same thing, just called something different.. At the very least it will spread the classifications out even more, resulting in longer road trips during the season.... Kind of like the insanely idiotic 2A situation that is in place now, where Rogers and Academy are in seperate districts despite both being 2A and 10 miles apart. Instead, Rogers has district games in San Antonio, Shulenburg, and Blanco....

Idiots...

in west Texas I was in a district for years with Ozona, Sonora, Eldorado, Big Lake, Mason, and Junction forever. kinda changed every few years w/ some other schools, but they were there most of my 6 competitive UIL years.

Eldorado was apparently the tie that binded because they dropped to 1A and then they punished Wall, Ozona, Sonora, and Big Lake for the next few years by sending them out to Van Horn and Anthony. Anthony, the one west of El Paso. 9 hour trip for district games.

Well yeah, but that's west Texas. Population is sparse, towns are spread out. Long road trips for district games are unavoidable.

That's not the case for most of the rest of the world.. Those scenarios are completely avoidable when schools of the same classification are 10 miles apart. Yet the UIL sends em to San Antonio. Makes no sense.

they were completely avoidable. Wall, where I went, could literally get to 20 2A schools within an 1:45. sending us to Anthony BFEPaso was ridiculous. They just need to move schools like that up or down accordingly. They probably should do the same for Troy, Cameron, Rogers and Salado.

They can't just move a school up or down a classification because its convenient. The enrollment cutoffs are what they are, set by the UIL...

Your west texas schools that were near each other but in different districts were probably in different classifications, right? Or, you were in a district with an outlier -- the El Paso schools. In other words, the El Paso schools had to be put somewhere, and I guess y'all were the closest thing they could find to form a district...

The thing that makes the current 2-A situation egregious is these nearby schools ARE in the SAME classification, yet are in different districts.

The reason is the UIL decided to divide 2A into small and large school divisions for the regular season, rather than the playoffs like every other classification.

The result is local schools in the SAME classification being split and sent to separate districts and unnecessarily long road trips SOLEY because 2A is split during the regular season...

Here's the thing --- the 4 schools you mentioned --- Troy, Academy, Rogers, and Cameron are ALREADY in the same classification. They're not gonna move them up or down a class unless their enrollment numbers warrant it. And if they could so it today, it would do no good since they're already ALL 2A...

Same division of 2A but this was back in the 90's and 2000's. i don't believe the divisions were around then. I don't think they should move our local 4 around by any stretch as far as up or down an A. I'm just saying that in a situation like Anthony is not comparable to what they do to our 4 around here. But asking a school district to make almost 10 9 hour trips in 2 years is avoidable.

I'm not saying they should force Troy or anybody up or down but putting those San Angelo area schools in a district like that is egregious. Something has to be done to avoid killing a budget like that. Similar to what's here.

I can remember back in yhe mid to late 90sthat I think Academy and Riesel where in the same district and had to drive through at least one if not two oyher districts to get to each other (Rogers and RL maybe)

Then about the same time period an alignment was done where three schools that were initially in the same district where then placed in 3 different districts that were also in 3 different regions. I think it was Riesel, Mart, and RL.

It's my understanding that Rockdale is dropping down during the next realignment.

Apparently Cameron had a larger graduating class than they did!
Cowboy1990

I know Rockdale is going through some leadership changes right now. Read on the paper the other day that the person they selected to be their next superintendent backed out on them.

Rockdale lost a ton of kids when they went to a group grading policy. They way I understand it and I may be wrong is that three students would be grouped. Low middle and high and all grades were based on the group grade. You can imagine how this worked out.

Cameron lost a ton of kids and from what I hear the guys have not been in the weight room like they were last year. I don't know how they will do but playoffs are a given with four teams going. By the way I find the four team playoff policy pretty laughable.

Cameron had 3 less than they should have.

One suspended after having drug para.... at school last year and threatening to kill the principal (convicted)

One arrested a week ago connected to a fight.

One injured in a wreck Saturday that critically injured a friend of mine. Football player was driving without a license, lost control then over corrected and plowed into my friend. Football player will be fine in a couple of weeks, my friend will have lifetime injuries.

Hell Rogers should be good this year. Actually go further in the playoffs than just first second round. They're ranked #1 in the district and has the toughest district in 2A small

I don't think Midway would move to a newly created 6A, they are relatively new to 5A and other than the damned Waco ISD refugees, I don't think it's growing near fast enough to jump again.
