I was told UIL plans districts from the outside borders of the state and that is why schools in the middle of the state get so strangely split up. It is not just the large and small 2A issue. If you put the Temple Waco area together, there are enough 2A schools for both a small and large district that would required little travel.

Those west texas schools (and I went to high school in one) first of all have to go a long way regardless, and second, at least in the area where I lived have oil money. Go check the website for Borden County ISD to see what I mean.

I know that the huge district we are in has been a financial burden. We have had to charter busses even on Jr. High and JV nights because the distance is too great for us to run our bus routes and then get them to the games, plus the charters can drive a little faster than the school bus and that keeps them from being quite so horrible late getting home on a school night.

And although we go far south for football, we got put in a new region for everything else. I don't hate Tarleton, but I hate going there for academic regional. No way they can handle the crowd. Not enough hotel rooms and the long time schools all have them so we have to stay thirty miles away and drive in. Golf and tennis say facilities are terrible. And on the academic day, out high school cafeteria has more seating than their student union building, so the entire day is spent standing. No place to sit down except on the floors and that is one place my age is showing. I can't sit on the floor because I can't get up without furniture to pull up on.

Texas State does a much, much better job of hosting and has large enough facilities to handle the crowd.

Taylor Ducks-

Replaced both lines.
Team is mostly juniors and sophomores.
This is the 2nd year in Coach Purser's system and it should be an improvement (but, the team is younger).

We will know a lot more this Friday, around 10 pm.

West takes the field against Academy tomorrow night. Should be an emotional night. 4 1/2 months ago, my wife was helping triage patients from the explosion on that same field.

Yes. They've had to replace the grass because they used it as a triage center

Marlin turned the lights out on the Rogers game with over two minutes left. We left because I don't walk that well in the dark. Very strange.

Marlin was sad. Very few in stands, only three cheerleaders, bands was small. Team played with a ton of heart, but where is everyone to support them?

A whole lot of Marlin's kids have transferred to Groesbeck or Rosebud Lott. Each school is sending a bus into Marlin to pick up kids.

I heard rogers got a lot of transfers. Heard some are from 5A and getting recruited by colleges. Anybody know any more?

If you were already being recruited by colleges, why would you transfer from a 5A school to a small 2A school?

Not sure. From what I heard, the schools they were at didn't have a shot at a ring. Rogers is #6 in 2A II. Figured they'd have a better shot at a ring. Idk, this is just what I'm hearing. I'll find out more Friday in academy.

More than likely colleges arent going to recruit a lot of players from teams that run the offense Rogers runs and while they may be #6 in the poll they won't make it past the third round of the playoffs IMO

If you are truly college material, I guess I can see transferring to a smaller school if there is a rift with the coach (red flag), or if the coach is positively NOT utilyzing the player's talent (Lache Seastrunk was an extreme example of this, IMO), AND there is no reasonable big school alternative around.

I don't see how going from a 5A school to a 2A school is gonna get you on a college coach's radar though. For example, i dont see David Ash going to tu by staying at Academy HS.

I'm sure there are examples of the opposite happening. Just seems like a backward way if doing it...

True.

OK so I asked around. There was one that was Gunna come that was being looked at by some college and actually did two-a-days with rogers, until he got in trouble and his grandma sent him to some family member in KY.
And there were two brothers or cousins that baylor was looking at, so they were Gunna move into rogers to be closer to waco because where they were was nowhere close to here. Well they loved it here until they went into a restaurant here and one of our old racist people said something to them and they decided to just stay where they were. Those were the big 3 that were coming and getting looked at by colleges.
There are 5-6 that did transfer but they're not getting looked at.

That's what I got told tonight at JV game

^yea it was something like "we don't like your kind around here." From what I was told last night the mother didn't mind she just didn't want the kids around that.

Rogers takes care of Academy, 55-21.
Good ol rivalry games, got heated a few times. Refs seperating players.

Next week is Troy at home for Homecoming. 1st home game of the year, if you wanna come, show up about an hour ahead of time cuz its Gunna be packed.

I'm always amazed3d at how small some of these stadiums are in these football crazed towns.....Rogers, Salado, Lexington, Cameron, Rockdale, Troy, etc.

yea our stadium sucks. we need to get buddy buddy with Drayton lol

Cru, we are really in need of a new academic building and that should come way before a new stadium in my opinion. We manage with what we have.

It is also the East Bell Country dinner before the game so another reason to get there early.

The students are Rogers (We Are Rogers) AND are fantastic and handle it, but it is possible for a student to have classes in as many as 8 different buildings during the day, and many actually do have classes in six or seven of the eight.

It is a great little school with wonderful community support. We are blessed.

3rd,

I understand completely! Its a shame Rogers, Rosebud, and a few others can't get new academic buildings like Moody, Salado, Cameron, and othrrs have been able to do over the last 20 years.

Rogers pulled out the nail biter. Took care of businesses in the second half against Troy for the homecoming game. 48-31 Rogers

The fine citizens of Rosebud basically kicked out their entire school board. Maybe there will be some change in the future.
