Yeah this topic has come up before and the consensus is there is no consensus

welcome to the board, but you'll probably get more traffic on the west texas board where the Abilene and San Angelo people hang out
rather be fishing

I posted a similar question on both boards a while back.

I don't live out there, but was there for a family reunion back during football season. There is an A&M club that meets around the Brownwood area for game watching parties. The wife and I got to hang out and watch the game with a bunch of good Ags while we were out there.

Waco is Mecca, we all know that. You will enjoy bwd. Great place to raise a family and good aggie community. It is what you put into it, never going to have all the larger urban area things happening but you can golf, hunt, be active in the community (and appreciated for your involvement), fish and boat.

My daughter has had some work dealings in Brownwood and was impressed with the people of the community in general!

Our ranch is near Brownwood. Good people and community, watch out for the speed traps is just about the only negative thing I've got to say.

Also, for folks saying that anywhere near is the "meth capital" of TX obviously has never been anywhere E of 45!

Buc... what will you be doing in Bwood? like someone else said, it is what you make of it. you can expect typical small town pain in the ass stuff but not a bad place. dry as **** most of the year. BCC not a bad little track if you play golf. Good deer and dove hunting.

not meth capital but plenty of drugs if you look but that's one of those small town pain in the ass things. people act like it doesn't happen in their small town but it is everywhere.

good luck

I always wonder what sort of employment is available there (have plenty of family there). Seems there wouldn't be much other than menial labor unless you work in healthcare.

Poll question: if you live in Brownwood, what do you do for a living?

From my National Guard days in the 1990s, the top jobs in Brownwood unrelated to Howard Payne University were:

#1 Kohler Toilet Factory
#2 3M Factory
#3 Incarceration of a variety of non-violent offenders and youth offenders

#4 probably National Guard at Camp Bowie

Brownwood is pretty solid.
