Will be in TX for a little over 3 weeks in November with a drive to Florida and back the middle week. There will be 7 of us.

Anyone know of any monthly rental options in the Waco/Temple area for a conversion van or something large enough to hold 3 car seats and 4 adults comfortably?

Some of the car dealers may be able to help you I would think.

Suburban is all I can think of from a rental place. Enterprise/hertz.

Although 747 is gonna be holed up here soon with a newbie.. He may make you a deal on his for a couple weeks...

I will still be needing the suburban (medium duty Catholic assault vehicle) as kids will still need transport with junior's impending arrival. We will likely not upgrade to the heavy duty assault/personel transport model (large van) until junior is a big brother.

I think you should accelerate the upgrade and then let me rent it from you for a few hundred bucks a week in November.

cjo, gosh I would love to meet you in November!

Enterprise rents 9 passenger vans and can take seats out if you need more luggage space.

Good lord. How many in your group have DLs?

Seems like it would cost less to rent two small cars rather than one big van

In fact, with that many people, I'd probably rather have 2 cars anyway

I want to say that Sykora Ford in West has rented vans before, but I'm not 100% positive on that....may have been only as a favor to the church.

A full size 4 door sedan would run you about $750 for 3 weeks

2 would run you $1500

THREE sedans will cost less than HALF of what you'd pay for that van

Just my opinion, but I'd go with a couple of sedans all day long and twice on Sunday

It will cost less, people will actually have vehicles at their disposal when they want it, and you won't go insane from having 7 people in a vehicle for 3 weeks

if only life were that easy .. we have free access to a number of vehicles.. including the old suburban with bench seats we usually drive when we come back to texas.. and an old 7 person minivan (which is quasi-reliable)

about a third of the trip will be 2 adults, 2x 5 year olds and a 3 year old.. the other half will include the grandparents of those 3 kiddos that i moved to Oregon last year and they don't get to see too often.. so we'd prefer to be all together.. fly to killeen, see fam in temple, drive to the woodlands (with 7) and visit other half of fam, maybe a night in new orleans, 4 nights in panama city with 1 of those days being 3 adults and 3 kids driving around alot, then all of the above in reverse...

definitely not worth the $4800 to me but if i could find something comfy and reliable for a about a quarter of that or less I'd consider it.

Well, OK, but everybody in one vehicle sounds like a preference rather than a necessity

Yall will have plenty of time to visit at your destination. Just get where you're going comfortably and without going bankrupt

Again, just an opinion

EDIT - but yes, of course, of you can find a suburban or van for $1500 or so, you'll be better off doing that

definitely a preference.. vs necessity.. and absolute preference is the 6 bucket seats + a bench like this

My parents used to have one of the old school conversion vans with the curtains and the bench seat in back that folded down into a bed.

you spawned an idea though...

if anyone has a dependable swagger wagon with a roof rack and is interested in a cash + vehicle swap for a few weeks, i could entertain that too (old suburban, old durango, new murano, and some type ford sedan)..

we had a 1985 starcraft conversion van growing up as well. i loved it as a kid. i recall full out brawls with siblings sans seat belts on long drives... before dad pulled it over to whip us.

we had a full sized Chevy conversion van with the back bench/bed configuration! The kids called dibs on their seats the night we first saw it and they were 10, 9, and 5. We drove it until it "gave up the ghost" when the oldest were junior and freshman at A&M and the youngest was about to get his learners permit. It would be perfect for your trip with the three car seats on the bench!

Looks like someone is selling an old conversion van across the street from the HEB on 19th street in waco.

1. Make an offer for about cost of rental
2. Drive wheels off it on vaca
3. ????
4. Resell upon return and Profit

as long as you dont have 80 lbs of stolen brisket, and a knife, and attack the cops when they arrest you.... generally speaking it is pretty safe.

Drive the old suburban for the Texas weeks. Rent a better vehicle just for the Florida trip and just for one week.

that's the most likely plan.. have been searching in Houston area too for conversion rentals but nada. I found a 12 passenger van for a week for $800 but not totally convinced a passenger van would be more comfortable. I still have a few weeks to solve this very important problem
