Not automotive but rather Ego 56V mower battery.

The charging seems so random. This morning I used a battery I had been charging for 3 days and the mower ran for 5 mins before losing charge . Then I immediately charged it for 20 mins and it ran for 20
Mins . There is no significant difference in the thickness, height or wetness of the grass I was mowing.

I'm sure there is a technical explanation i could look up online and try to interpret but I know there's someone here that can boil it down and explain it in brief.

I've had EGO stuff for 7 or 8 years and never had that issue. You might have a bad battery.

I think your'e right about that . I already ordered another one. It's only slightly past 2 yrs old tho. Still doesn't really explain why I charge for 3 days and it discharges so quickly and then I charge it another 20 mins and it doesn't discharge nearly as quickly. I have noticed this multiple x but this was the most pronounced.

I am thinking anecdotally that there is a benefit to totally discharging the battery before trying to recharge it

I think the batteries come with a 5 yr warranty.

I had a charger that sometimes if I left a fully charged battery on the charger, It would discharge.

Eventually the charger went out an had to get a new one.

Now I try and disconnect the battery one it is fully charged.

That's something I'll try . Thanks for that observation. Seems like the charger would automatically recharge if the battery discharges in the charger but perhaps not.

Something else I just noticed on last charging cycle. It showed fully recharged in 15 mins. I took it off the charger and waited one minute and then put it back on the charger. It now shows it's only half charged . Just did it again and this time it shows 3/4's charged . Seems like there is some benefit to putting it through multiple
Short charging cycles rather than one long one.

Just a random question. Does the charger go into trickle mode at near full charge, or does it stay on full charge? Big difference in battery health.

There are 4 lights across the top of the charger and they all stay lit after it indicates full charge but the charger does not appear to be running, however as I indicated on a previous post , I can pull the battery off the charger and put it right back on the charger & it sometimes indicates less than full charge and commences charging again.

That battery is toast. 3 days would cook any battery, if it wasn't already cooked.

The charger shouldn't do that. I leave mine on the charger frequently for a week or two at a time and have never had any issues.

It does appear that the problem was the battery and not the charger . I got the new battery and it charges up perfectly , charger shuts off at full charge , and when I pull it off and put it right back on it still shows fully charged .

Having said that , I have now find a way to get a better charge on the old battery . I just have to pull it off the charger for a bit and then put it back on and after 2-3 cycles it's charged as much as it's
Going to get charged. In essence I have to trick the system into fully charging the battery.
