I'm in need of a reliable truck to tow 10K lb boat and trailer.

Seeking Diesel as longevity is a key for me.

Ford, Chevy, Sierra, or Dodge Ram - assuming all are 2500 models

thank you,

john

John, if longevity is key for you, I'd recommend seeking a gas truck over a modern diesel.

Budget is approx 75K - 85K - top line

will have a trade in of a 2016 suburban ltz to cover a small portion of the 75 to 85K

also open to low mileage used trucks

just out of my area of expertise so looking for some direction

Longevity? How many miles/years are you planning to drag a boat around?

You're going to have to do a crap ton of hauling to make the diesel a better option than something like the gas 6.2 in a Chevy, for instance.

And diesel only makes sense if you are planning to run the vehicle out to 200,000+ miles, or towing 10,000 miles or more a year.

If you are looking to make long hauls with it, I would definitely go with a diesel. I prefer Ford but I think the Cummings and the Duramax are great engines as well. The added torque the diesel gives you helps with the hauling. I am at 250k on my current F250 and have no plans to sell it anytime soon. If it would ever start giving me major problems, I might consider getting another.
