Hello autoboard. I have a 2016 Range Rover with around 150k miles on the clock, that is still in great condition.

I have just finished opening a new office in Abu Dhabi and was going to give it to my new GM as his car, and was wondering how many miles I should expect out of it.

The Range Rover is very popular here so service is easy, and I've been lucky to avoid any issues but recently it seems the electrical is a little buggy as it will randomly turn on warning lights in the dash without actual problems.

Probably an aging battery. Having said that, not sure how much of a gift a 150K Range Rover is, sounds more like a curse.

Abu Dhabi?

Sounds like a great fit for a Chevy Trax.

I had to read it twice, but I found it.

"How ****ty is it of me to give a guy a 150k mile Range Rover?"

It's the right kind of status vehicle for UAE, but you should be prepared for significant repair costs given the age and miles.

With the watches you're buying and posting and you want to go give an 8 year old Range Rover with 150k miles on it?!? You're setting the new GM up for failure. Don't be shocked if he quits

It's free? It's my car I have been using, and I'm just giving it to him. I didn't offer him a car with the position, I was just doing it because I'm not going to be here as much with him taking over.

Fair.

Does said employee have a vehicle? Are you covering repairs and inevitable costly maintenance?

Also, are you going to be upset if you give it to him and he just turns around and sells it?

His wife has a vehicle but he was going to buy one when he got here for himself. I let him use the Range Rover when he was here for a month when I was back in the states and he liked it but thought it only had another 50k of life left.

I won't pay for any of the repairs or maintenance, but he can sell it or trade it in or do what he likes with it once it is his. I assume he will drive it for a while and then trade it in at the first decent sized issue

I own a chain of manufacturing companies that make drilling equipment for different industries; water, mineral exploration, and oil & gas. We won a big contract for the supply of drilling spares to the government oil&gas company here but a certain portion of it had to be made in country to comply with "in country value" regulations, so I had to open a factory here.

This is a picture of 5/11 of my team so far in front of a few of our CNC's. The Russian gentleman in the middle is who the Range Rover is for

I bought one of those last month. I have a "spiff" with my Sales Guys that if they sell $5,000,000 product in a year, I will buy them a car up to 450.000 dhm. My top guy did it by the end of July and wanted a 2024 Land Cruiser GR. The thing is awesome.

If you're relocating him, I'd say you should give him decent wheels and the company should bear the operating expenses.

Prado or Pajero seems reasonable for that part of the world. Leasing may make more sense.

When I moved overseas, I got one of our Execs of Toyota Crowns, and later I got a Turbodiesel Grand Santa Fe.

So an update to this story and rule #1.

The Range Rover decided to make my decision very easy for me.

Over the last 12 days we've had an engine leak, a busted shock absorber, and this morning the power steering kicked the bucket right when I was going up a parking ramp.

I spoke to my GM and told him I was going to sell it and get another Hilux for the company, and he was relieved. It turns out he didn't want the Range Rover (even for free) out of fear of costly repairs or it breaking down. I told him I would give him 20% of the proceeds from the range sale to use towards a new vehicle for him, and he was very happy.

Rule #1 of the Hilux.

That Hilux looks exactly like the one I drove in Iraq when I deployed in 2021. I remember every one of them had gold trim too. Quite fancy to run around a base in.

With all that business kick it up a notch and get him a car that isn't a hand-me-down. Range Rovers... lol.

Good decision to ditch the RR. Many of us here feel validated.

Question. Did your RR randomly open the back hatch? I had 18 RR Sport. Fun to drive, but sucked with all of its electrical gremlins.
