Getting ready to replace shift cables on a 986 Boxster. Be a fun project. My front to rear cable is failing. Installing Numeric cables.

Has anyone done this?

Havent, but my '98 is running the Tiptronic.

Have you joined/visited 986forum.com? That site has saved me THOU$AND$ in repair and maintenance costs... and is a great resource for guidance and information.

I've learned to take my time... take some ibuprofen an hour before I get started on working/tooling on it... and, if available, have someone with small hands assist.

If you're n SoCal I'll lend a hand, in spite of my ginormous gargantuan hands.

I am in Central Texas. I have a pretty good relationship with my mechanic. That and watching videos gives you an idea of the job. It will be a bear.

Agree, plan for it taking me twice as long.

As an update for you 986 folks, center console removed, 986 shifter removed, and 997 shifter installed. On Friday it goes in service position and gets raised for cable replacement.

That 986 shifter is a POS, and may have been the issue.
