I've tried to get quotes from other insurers (because rates are so high), and this is what I've found so far:

- the rate they give me is about the same as I already have (USAA - 25+ years).
- the rate they give me is lower, but the coverage is not as good (what the crap?). I then ask for comparable coverage (I always send them a snapshot of all my coverages) - I don't know why they don't give me the same coverage initially (probably because they know it will be the same rate and they think I won't look at the coverages).

I'm in TN. Advice? Shop some more rates? (So far, Allstate, Progressive, and 2 independent agencies who shop the "marketplace")

1) Pull your CLUE report. It's your insurance credit report. make sure you don't have any accidents, tickets, etc that shouldn't be there
2) Is your credit good? Most insurance companies use your actual credit score for insurability.
3) Have you looked at a pay per mile type service? If you don't drive a lot, this may be cheaper. I've considered it with one of my cars.

For "normal" insurance, I still haven't found anyone comparable to USAA in my coverage tier though I do have policies with USAA, Hagerty, and Porsche for different cars.

I was going to say go with an independent broker, but it looks like you've tried 2.

Apparently that's just what the market price is. It sucks, they've lost billions over the last few years and are trying to get above water. Lots of companies have pulled completely out of certain states (Cali, gulf states, etc.).

GEICO went way up on my rates a year or 2 ago, and shopping around only reduced them a fraction of what the increase was, finally settled on Progressive.

Are there any farm bureau agencies in TN?

I use Texas Farm Bureau for my home & auto. Haven't had to file a claim yet but rates seem reasonable compared to USAA when comparing apples to apples coverage.

We have been using Esurance for awhile now. My wife used to be an insurance agent and what to look for and where to look. You should get a quote.

Yes, there is Farm Bureau in TN. Seems like their quote is about 20-25% less expensive. And that's just for auto - haven't looked into bundling home. Thanks for the info.

One thing that I have noticed is that it might behoove you not to bundle if you are shopping that way.

I was able to save a BUNCH of money by leaving Cincinnati private client (home, auto and umbrella) and moving to a National General homeowners policy with Progressive auto and umbrella.

Cincinnati was about 2.5 times the premium of Progressive for similar coverage.

Cincinnati also wouldn't quote me homeowners + umbrella if I took auto out. After I found that out, it was obvious they were trying to claw some profits back on the auto policy by raising the premium further than was necessary.

Any recent thoughts on the discounts provided from the insurers' tracking apps on phones?

My broker (fellow Aggie whom I trust) switched me over to Travelers because home/auto bundle was more competitive than previous Safeco policy, but Travelers is really pushing me to install their IntelliDrive app on my phone.

For savings of only $172/year compared to if I don't install the app, my first inclination is "Thanks but hell no".

With State Farm, I get a large discount for something similar, the Drive Safe app or some ***** So I installed the app, synced the tracker buttons to it (which are assigned to each vehicle), put in my odo readings, then the discount takes effect for 6 months. So then I just delete the app and keep the buttons in my drawer until renewal.

I also saved by going to Travelers. Needed to shop all my insurance so the Travelers bundle saved me a bunch.

Farm Bureau was markedly cheaper than USAA. Plus, local agent. I'll check with Travelers as well.

That's my concern. I'm a fairly conservative driver, but already twice today I've had two sudden/panic stops because of people switching lanes last minute. I'm just apprehensive about how these apps' algorithms "score" stuff like that.

I tried the State Farm one briefly. It was complete BS the way it rated my driving. I was aware it was there and being really conservative (not necessarily accurate of my normal driving all the time) and it list all kinds of problems. I took it out and deleted the app. I think I may still be getting the discount though.

I'd give AAA a try. We switched in 2018 after being with Liberty Bibbidy for 15 years and the savings was big for auto, home, umbrella and boat. Increases for the next 4 years was nearly zero. However, there was a larger increase for 23 and 24.

I don't think they offer an app that tracks your driving (which I wouldn't do anyway) but they do ask for mileage on each vehicle yearly.

Might be worth a few minutes of your time.

edit to add: they only offer yearly plans, so no new premiums after 6 months like some others.

if the app dings you for something, you can hit a button that says you were a passenger in the car instead of the driver...
Then they double the intended increase because records show you are regularly letting idiots drive your car.........
