Came across a deal I could not pass on, or so I told my wife. 72 Super Cheyenne and a 2004 Yukon XL. Guy I bought them from said he bought the C10 from the original owner a few years ago and had the original title and paperwork. He bought this Yukon from auction as an abandoned vehicle, and planned on using the drivetrain in the C10.

A couple more pictures I got after hauling them home. Not great, but something. Looks like it needs cab corners and maybe passenger floor board metal work. Bed and everything else looks pretty good, but have not had time to look it over yet.

One is enough! I have a ton of updating to do on that thread

That old truck is my type of ride.

I fully expect the cab to smell of spilled beer and dust. Post some interior pictures.

Nice! My kind of vehicles right here.

I will have a good running 350 (I think, need to verify it's not a 305) that I'm hopefully yanking out of my 75 Blazer over Christmas if you need a simple engine swap before your LS swap. I have an LS going in mine

I would not get your hopes up. I expect the smell of musty rat piss.

Your guess is correct. Smelled like a bums flip flops soaked in rat piss, mixed with some broken dreams.

Saw some signs that whoever owned this truck used to race it. Lots of weight reduction modifications have been made.

The badge on the fender doesn't match the build sheet.

Interesting, but not surprising.

I saw that. Will have to compare the vin in the dash to the one on the truck. Maybe somebody wanted to show off at the feed store with those 400 badges? Steering wheel looks like it came off an early OBS truck.

Finally getting around to working on the Yukon. The shifter was snapped, and the ignition and column broken. Not sure what the story is behind it. Grabbed a tumbler and key, as well as shift mechanism from the pick and pull for little to nothing. Ordered a computer from my buddy at LSXswapbox with vats deleted as well as torque mgmt and etc for 90 bucks. Grabbed a side post battery for 30 bucks from the pick and pull as well. Heres a couple of pictures of the Yukon XL

Last thing I did was add 5 gallons of fresh gas and a couple of bottles of octane booster, as this thing appears to have last been running about 5 years ago. It must have an aftermarket alarm, because when I tried to crank it by key it went nuts and would not start. Was able to turn the key on and jump the relay to get it started. Made the most crazy clanking, sounded like cheap pots and pans being clapped together.

Once I let it run a little, I put it in drive and reverse to see if the transmission was good. To my surprise it moved forward and backwards just fine. When I put it in park I fed it some onions and it revved good without the clatter. After further inspection, I think it might just be the torque converter is loose and making the rattling sound. At this point I made myself late to a new years eve party so had to call it quits. Assuming I fix the clank easily, the plan is to clean this up and sell it complete. Should be able to clear what I paid for both trucks and have enough left over to purchase a 4L80 and 6.0 for the C10.

Yeah, that noise isn't top or bottom end, it does sound like loose TC bolts. While you're fixing that, I'd make sure the flexplate isn't cracked.

Use blue loctite on the TC bolts, if memory serves correctly they're 65 ft/lbs

Question for the collective here. That Yukon is pretty clapped out cosmetically, and will cost me about 200 bucks to get a title for it. Here's your multiple choice:

A. Sell Yukon complete with title
B. Sell Yukon without title for 1500 to someone to use for an LS swap
C. Throw the C10 body on the Yukon XL frame and roll with that
D. ?

Having done this, I humbly suggest you scratch Option C off your list.

Reason: the swap goes the other way. It is much easier to drop the engine and transmission (I am guessing the yukon is 2wd) into the truck than trying to move the truck over onto that frame. THAT has been done thousands upon thousands of times and there are no mysteries to it. The parts for the conversion can be on your doorstep in a week and you can do it from budget to big money. You choose.

Edit.
Upon re-reading, that didn't come out right, so I'll rephrase. If you plan to keep the 350 in the C10 I don't know which route is best for the Yukon. However, if you plan to meld the two, I highly encourage you to consider LS swapping the truck with the engine and trans from the Yukon. That is a much more popular route and easier to do than going the other way. Body swap route is possible, but will require more work, likely be more expensive, and has less market support than LS swapping the C10. I've done this very swap and let the project creep win - but with discipline, it can be done relatively economically.

If you ditch the whole deal and still want to throw big $ at an FJ40 - there is a badass one in Boise a friend is looking to sell.

No matter what frame the C10 body ends up on, I plan on powering it with an LS. My original plan was to put a 6.0 and 4L80 in it, and to just sell or part out the Yukon. Then I saw this youtube video and my Aggie gears started turning:

If you're not after boost or nitrous, I'd probably stick to a 60e. Anything less than 400 whp, 4L80e will feel like a dog especially with anything less than a 4.10 gear.

I really hate 4L60E's, but you are probably right. If I'm not happy with a 6.0 NA, I can always throw a turbo on it. Rings will be gapped already for it haha

A 80e can still be a good time behind a NA 6.0, but you need to gear appropriately and not run a ***** cam.

I have 4.56 gears with a 30" tire and a 233/240 cam in my 6.0/80e
