Had a '15 Sierra 1500 in for the past week and a half trying to figure out what is causing the doors to randomly lock/unlock while driving (included on another post). Unfortunately, they've not been able to replicate the issue so no updates on this part.

They did, however, come back with the following items which I'm interested if these prices seem reasonable:

1. Front sway bar end links worn and bushings missing - $370

2. Lower ball joints worn/loose - $1,150

3. Alignment post-ball joint replacement - $109

Any thoughts here? In BCS.

I had a '13 Sierra that I had a local shop replace the upper (control arms) and lower ball joints plus alignment for $1750 a year or two ago. I did the sway bar bushings myself a year before that when I heard jingling while driving (it was the washers just bouncing around with no bushings).

Confirm your ball joints are actually worn and it's not just a torn boot, some can even be re-greased. There should be no vertical play in the joint when a wheel is off the ground while prying up on it.

Dealerships are not your friend. A 10 year old truck does not need to go to a dealership unless it is under warranty.

All of those items can be repaired by your local mechanic. Its a Chevy truck. They can fix it

They only thing that sounds reasonable is the alignment.

Pretty much where my head was at from the get-go. Called a local shop and he quoted me (ballpark) around $1,200 for all of the above just based off of what I told him. Will be moving it over to him tomorrow.

New ball joints are ~$12 each per side. Most shops are too lazy to replace the BJ itself these days and do entire control arms because it's faster. You can get brand new control arms for $100-200 per side depending on brand. That means you're paying $600-800 in labor for that job. Seems high to me.

Sway bar end links are <$15 per side. That's a driveway job that you don't even need to jack the truck up for assuming this truck was never in the rust belt. Price again seems high if you have any tools and are mechanically inclined.

$100 for an alignment sounds normal to me and is needed if they replace the entire control arm. Might not be needed if just the ball joint is replaced
